I've been tooling around as a pirate and having a pretty good amount of fun with it. The ship to ship combat is definitely cool. However, I've gotten myself defeated a couple times without actually knowing why. Now, I realize that there is a log where detailed info is given, but would it be possible to have some basic indicators on screen?
I was thinking something like having a simple indicator for our ship's engines, combat effectiveness, and maybe crew?
I'm thinking that my losses have been the result of my engines taking too much damage. So maybe have the indicators (maybe E=engines, W=combat effectiveness, and C=crew) just be color coded so green = 100%, yellow = 99-60%, orange = 59-30%, red = 29-0%?

Please not green and red for all the poor dichromats! Blue is good.

Ah, yes, I'm not too color-blind aware. Sorry! Honestly, we could go with shapes, signs, simple bars, whatever.

johndramey - we are working on putting a grid of icons and numbers into the header area, so that it is clear (for both ships) what their key stats are. Hopefully something that will be in for the next update. Armor, Engine Dmg, Speed, Agility, Shield,

The inverse is also true, sometimes you don't know why you won.
Was it Engine Destroyed? Captain Killed? Crew Surrender? Pilot stations down?

I'm sure that is true, but for me it's always been the enemy's hull collapsing

Not so far. Not saying that I've found it weird, I've been mostly sitting at range and slugging it out with torpedoes.

I do like the options after winning a boarding... sabotage, disable key area, leave? (I think)
I was too used to ST, and left the ship... and realized the battle between ships still raged on!

You can win by killing the Captain, badly injuring the enemy crew, destroying enough Pilot components, destroying the Engine, killing all the Officers. Most the AI will surrender when their weapons are destroyed.
We're working on giving the player a surrender option.

Are we going to get targeting options as well like target engines/weapons/bridge etc.?

We'll work on making how the targeting system works more clear.
Range, weapon, talent and other factors have major impacts on priority and cascades.
We're not planning on copying ST RPG with a button for targeting, because we've already got so many systems on that.
Our goal here is to make combat more the strategy and less arcade for ST2, which is why we've phased the turn, slowed it down a bit and cut the instant result buttons.
