Playing on android and I can't find a description of what this option does. What does this do?

On Station means that the crew member is actively using their skills at a station, giving benefit to the ship. On Patrol is for warrior types, so that you can quickly select them when boarding or crew combat comes around |

On patrol is really about defending your ship. If Crew aren't on Patrol, you cannot pick them for defense. If you don't have enough Patrol for defense, then the Crew selected is RANDOM, and could even include your Captain or Doctor officer if your luck was bad. Patrol, even 8 of them, helps keep the ship safe from Xeno  |

Patrol, even 8 of them, helps keep the ship safe from Xeno Weird, I've been able to switch over to the crew on Station, and recently picked my Captain to take down a bounty target with, even though the Captain was On Station. |

You were on attack? or Defense?
If you're defending, or ambushed on world, you only get to pick patrol and the rest are autoassigned.

Right, as the ship is landed, all crew are available, including the Captain.
