So once again starting a new Captain and I'm looking through my crew to decide who to promote. Just noticed that a number of crew members have extra skills beyond those from their job that are listed as 0(#)skill name. What does the number in parenthesis mean and where/how does it get applied to the game status screen and actual gameplay?
Curious because the numbers between the Status screen and those extra skills for crew don't match up...
Also if I have say a crew that lists 0(4) Doctor and made him an officer with Doctor or Combat Medic as a second job would that become an 8 Doctor skill?

xdesperado - not explained in the game at all, but sharp eye. Those are skill bonuses, but they are only used if the character is promoted to officer. So, along with existing jobs and traits, you should consider the skill bonuses that your crew members have when promoting.

Thanks for response, will change how I look at crew for possible promotion and/or firing. Also if the secondary job has skills that match those extras do the points get added together or are they kept seperate i.e. do I end up with say 8 Doctor if they had 0(4) before promotion or do I end up with 4(4) Doctor? Also on status screen are the numbers shown in terms of Strong(Weak) dice, or Job Skills(Non Job Skills) or what?

xdesperado - the numbers are added together (8 Doctor). In the status screen, the numbers are such as "Pilot 30/19" indicating 19 strong dice and 11 weak.

So question, my captain template gave me 2 Doctor 2 Negotiate as bonus skills. Starting Navigator has a bonus skill of 0(6) Doctor, starting Pilot has a bonus skill of 0(5) Negotiate. Status screen shows Negotiate 0(+5) and Doctor 0(+6) so my captains bonus skills don't appear to be added despite all 3 characters being on station. Also in past have noticed that promoted officers don't have their skills show on the Status screen unless they are placed on station. Example previous game had a Pistoleer that I made officer and gave Doctor as second job, didn't show Doctor dice on status unless they were on station. Note: this is a discussion about the non-ship operation skills listed on the Status screen NOT about the ship operations skills like Pilot and Navigation.

www.dropbox.com/s/p9a8o2e4ewgfnh5/20170202_184946.jpg?dl=0So if I promoted her to officer would she have 12evasion total or 9? Assuming I didn't give her a secondary job that added more evasion. Sorry just trying to get this straight in my head so I can make informed decisions about crew going forward.

Seeing the bonus skills for my two officers are displayed in parenthesis but numbers do not include my captains bonus skills.

Just confirming that On Station / On Patrol does NOT impact Officer Skill summaries.

Just confirming that On Station / On Patrol does NOT impact Officer Skill summaries. Think we are having a communication problem here. Sorry to disagree but On Station and On Patrol do affect the display on the status screen for following skills: Repair, Tactics, Command, Negotiate, Intimidate, Doctor, Explorer. Additionally in the case of promoting a crew member to officer who had bonus non job skill and giving them a job with that skill you don't end up with them having a total skill level outside the parenthesis on their roster sheet and they only recieve credit for the levels from their job on the status screen and don't show any of the other levels they have with that job on status screen. Also seems like any additional skill levels not granted by a Job get shown in Parenthesis on Status screen but only for one crewmembers skill and that if the captain has a non job skill his number will be shown there even if a crew member has a higher level and that those values aren't summed for all officers except for in the case of them being actual Job skills in which case they get totalled for all crew with that Job skill.

I think you're talking about jobs and I'm talking about skills. We will work on trying to clarify some of this.
