I'm out of cash again. I keep paying these people and training them up, every chance I get. Is this a bad idea, and I should prioritise something else?

I treat training as a last priority and will generally only do it if I have enough cash on hand to absorb the loss and still stay secure.

Yeah, xdesperado hit on an important thing, you sort of have to pay your crew otherwise they will bail out. I usually try to manage my funds so that I have an ideal minimum bankroll of around $5,000. After that, I'll general prioritize all of my expenses as such: fueling, spicing, doctoring, repairing, and then payroll. I find that spicing is generally very cheap and will keep your crew pretty happy as a stop gap if funds are tight as long as you do it routinely.

The pay scales are basically linear, so you don't loose or gain money by putting it off. So, paying often prevents it from becoming a big bill. If you pay some, but don't pay others, the excluded parties will lose morale.

Keep in mind that the right skill sets can help drastically reduce some of your possible expenses. Having Doctor skill for example can help keep routine medical bills to a minimum especially when supported by various Job special talents like Storm Shielding.

Also, we're working on an update that will improve all talents that provide discounts like "10% up to X Skill" -- these will become "10% + X Skill"

That is pretty great. So if we have 5 in the corresponding skill, we'll get a 15% discount? Very nice.

If Repairs are your problem, consider recruiting a Mechanic. This guy Job like Doctor for the Ship.
The point above that "spice is cheaper than paying your crew and keeps mutiny away for a while" is really important to consider.
Likewise with repairs and payments ... Repair your Engines, but maybe don't pay for the 8% damage on the Hyperwarp Drive yet.
Paying Crew but low on money? Just pay the ones that will level up and spice everyone.
I'd say once you hit a certain threshold in money, you should fall back to a safe mode of making money. We need to work on providing more of those via missions and trading opps.
