Actually beat a Xeno (900 hull version, not sure about other details), and went to loot its 16 cargo, only for the loot/cargo screen to come up blank.

Brown non-final UI screen had no items in it to loot, despite post-combat options saying there were 16 in the cargo hold.

Ticket #3357 ST - Bug - Xeno Loot Issue

Ok so long story short, yeah it is a bug.
Short story long, Xeno only carry a mysterious type of invisible resource called "-1" that cannot be looted normally. If you were able to loot it, it would take up space in your cargo hold ... but you could not sell it or see it.
Many captains in the early days of the universe were infected with cargo holds full of "-1" and eventually just died. Sad.
