Startup Ships: When creating a new Captain you can purchase one of eight types of ships. The priority you set determines what you can afford to buy. Right now the Budget is very straight forward. This will change when Ship customization is ready. This is how I think it will work. The priority sets the budget, if you buy a ship under budget the remaining funds can be used for customizing the components of the ship prior to launch. ST2 will not let you purchase a ship over budget, you must raise the priority to make a more expensive purchase. * Under the A through E columns x/y x=the cost of the ship, y=the amount left over for customization. Some form of ship cost money rebate is in the works. Ship Priority will really be "resources" in the end.

I want a way to print hardcopy forum wiki tables, and I cannot find a way to do that. Anybody else?

so I guess that's an open question. I'm going to build a bunch of data tools that output documentation. I really only want to output one format. What format should I output? HTML? Wiki Markup? XML? CSV?  |

We aren't going to be editing these things for you, correct? We are just consumers of output? Then I think HTML is easiest. What I want is a link in proboards to a different page on a TB site that is already set up to be very printer friendly. Click on this link, and then type control-p, and you are done. But if we are going to be providing content, then HTML stops being as nice as a google doc or a wiki.

Ginven the amount of player generated information on the boards, I don't think that a good wiki is unthinkable. It would relieve CoryAnd Andrew from having to input and update everything. I've been involved in several games where the player base maintained extensive wikis.

If there is to be an up-to-date, maintained wiki, then that would be my preference. Well maintained and up-to-date probably impossible. I will keep focus on the format and if somehow a Wiki system develops, that would be awesome. I will spend all the money I have to invest on the output engine, as that gives us the best chance of getting something out. Maybe never a maintained and up-to-date Wiki, but that's really something that doesn't have a chance of coming from me, just realistically. |

We could use POD, it has a lot of nice format translators and I have a lot of knowledge of it.
However, POD lacks a good table system, and a lot of this data is tabular. For that reason, I think we have to eliminate POD.

Well, POD is just an output format. You can use a POD transformation tool to generate PS, PDF, HTML, PNG, whatever you need. Those tools are provided by people who support the format.
We are definitely looking in that problem domain -- in particular a domain language that focuses on documentation markup is right in our solution space.
I just don't think POD is the right one due to the focus on code documentation rather that technical docs / data.
