Would be much easier to see how many pilots you have, gunners, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion!
It's a great moment to talk about sort filters --
1) Level 2) Name 3) Job
What else would people like to see? You'll be able to Sort + Filter the crew list.
Added #ST2-3396 to track this.

I'd like a 'find me my combat people' filter. Or is that what 'On Patrol' is supposed to do? I am still a bit fuzzy on that one. What I want is 'People whose weapons and weapon using skills I should check and update with better stuff when available'. VS people whose weapons are for ceremonial purposes only, because if they are ever in combat I am about to die anyway.
If this was a British Navy Man-o-War from the age of Sail, this would be the difference between the Marines, who are soliders in contrast to the Sailors, who sail the boat. You train your sailors in skills for 'blasting the enemy with your cannons' and 'sailing the ship'. Marines don't learn that stuff. Now, in the past Sailors took part in boarding operations, but in the ST2 world, I think this is going to work out to be a very bad idea, as seasoned navigators, gunners and pilots are hard to replace, and mine, at any rate, aren't turning out to be much good at boarding and exploring. But that could be the fault of the Badger, not of the crew.

I want filters that just show me crew with a specific job. Example looking at my status I have plenty of excess Ship Ops skill but could use more Navigation. Life would be simpler if I could filter to just show people with the Crew job so I could see how many I have and easily compare their levels/attributes/talents to determine who I want to fire so I have room to hire that extra Navigator. Same if I have extra Pilots or whatever.
The sorts we have already are a big help but things could still be improved in my opinion.

As far as filters, I'm pretty happy as they are. I would actually only probably use a couple though, so for me
Level Job On Patrol
are the only filters that I'd make a lot of use of.

"Ready to Level" is already a filter. "By Job" is difficulty, because there are 22 jobs in the game right now and there might be a whole lot more if we get our way. That would make a really hard-to-use filter interface. "On Patrol" is already a filter. Is this a mix of ones you are using / wish you had?

The filter "Ship Ops" will give you only the list of anyone who has a ship maintenance skill (Ship Ops, Electronics, Gunnery, Repair, Nav, Pilot). Patrol vs. On Station -- see the section in the rules explanation thread: startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/14606/st2-rules-explanation-thread

Sorry, didn't mean to be unclear. Of those three, I know that level and on patrol (fighters) are already filters. I make use of them. What a meant to say is that, I personally, would really only make use of a filter that filters my crew by job. It would basically only be used when I'm selecting crew to promote or when I'm cutting unnecessary crew members.
Morale, HP, etc. filters wouldn't really be used much by me because I basically visit the doctor/spice hall on every planet I land at and try to keep everyone topped off. Seeing that someone is hurt/angry mid-voyage wouldn't really be something that I'd be interested in.

johndramey - think "Sort by Job" would do the trick?

Most definitely. To be honest though, I fit squarely in the "lazy gamer" category and would probably just make do with whatever is the default list + the level filter. I have faith you guys will make everything lovely for me

I was thinking that just one option to "sort by job" which groups everyone by job when you look down the list.
Ex: first job on the list is pilot, so all pilot crew are grouped. Next is gunner, so all gunner crew are grouped. All crew are still visible, just grouped by job.
Then have these groups sorted by highest job level.

ChocoCrowbar - thank you for the clarification. That sounds pretty useful and I have taken it down on our list.

To add to this, it would be great to see extra visual labels for the Officers. I think the Crew Manifest by default sorts by Level, but my Officers aren't necessarily the highest levels in my crew. Either that, or keep Captain & Officers always at the top of the list.
By the way, does the Captain count as an Officer? I'm 5/5, but I only see 4 non-Captain Officers.

If I'm not mistaken, it defaults to order of arrival, newest crew at the bottom. Sometimes it flips, so the newest are at the top.
