In the juror class you have spare mass to upgrade only one or two components as opposed to the paladin cruiser where you can upgrade quite a few. While I feel smaller hulls should naturally have less upgrade room and flexibility the juror class has almost none. Expensive lightweight modules would be good possibly obtained via contacts. I feel a slightly higher maximum mass is needed though.
Really enjoying the game so far btw I like the contacts and crew systems but struggling with combat at the moment.
thoughts?

You get more mass to spend by installing mass dampeners, first thing. Improves fuel economy as well, at least until you then install more heavy components. The Juror still feels awfully cramped to me, though.

I don't know about you guys, but the only mass dampeners available are the ones I all ready have, no matter what ship I choose.

You go in, and the merchant, instead of telling you what cool new things he could install on your ship, tells you what things you already have on your ship he could rip out. Its only when you toss something that the ability to get new things shows up.

That doesn't change based on my ship. It makes me sad.

When you enter the Upgrade screen, what is display FIRST is the list of components on your ship. What would you like to upgrade or replace? So, first you are picking from your existing list of components.
Once you pick one (say your Mass Dampener), it shows you a list of similar components (all other Mass Dampeners). If you don't like that, you can hit the Type button, which will bring out all components. Then the list is kind of scary long.
Of course, this UI is total alpha crap, and we're working to improve!

I will take a look at the Juror class, which currently looks like this:
Ship Slot TOTAL 15 [10 Small, 3 Medium, 2 Large] Ship Comp Mass TOTAL == 3325 of 3400

Thanks for the feedback! We will look specifically at the Juror and see if we can balance it better to be more fun from the start Thanks for the feedback, glad you're enjoying the game. If there are specific combat questions we can answer, we'd love to help. Perhaps we need to post some YouTubes to show strategies.

What I'm saying is that the only upgrades are worse versions of what I got. For one ship I have a dampener of -120 or so and all the available ones are the exact same or less than . For another ship, I have a dampener of -150 and all the available ones are the same or less than. I can't actually get any upgrades. This counts for the other components too.

I never realized what the type button did until you said that. I figured it was a sorting button but that I didn't have the rep or permits to access other upgrades yet. Doh.

@kanly - currently, any Starport able to give out upgrades gives them all out. You just have to hit Type.

Thanks for the specifics. There is a -300, a -225, a -150. So, you can install those, but both are Medium Slot. So, if you are trying to replace the -150 which is in a Small Slot, you won't see them in the lists.

@ officergenious There is no point in throwing away a mass dampener to replace it with another mass dampener. By definition, the one that you will get is the same size as the one you threw away, i.e. they are exactly the same component. Maybe improved versions of the same component (takes up the same amount of room but dampens twice as much) are in the works, but we don't have them now.
Throw away some _other_ medium size component to get room for _another_ medium size mass dampener.Oooops, the note fallen just wrote contradicts this, looks like you can swap a medium dampener for an even better one. Sorry!

Yah, I tinkered a bit trying to figure it out, but when I read a post that the upgrade process wasn't ready for prime time/feedback, I just ditched playing around with it....
