The legality rating is confusing me a bit. When a good is detailed on the supply/demand screens it is given a legality rating. Where does this rating fit in to your explanation please? A common Permit 0 good like clothing is predominantly displayed with a Legality 10. If I take this number then 10 - 10 = 0, so the highest law score planet that I can sell on is 0, which does not seem right. Is the displayed legality rating already the end result of the equation that you describe here? Ah darn, thanks for pointing this out. I was writing all of this stuff from memory and got the trade permit system and the legality system mixed up. The legal number you see is the level of law that you can sell at, meaning that any law rating above that number will prevent you from selling that good. Good catch! Thanks for pointing this out.

tenbsmith, I actually already wrote up a section on legality, so check that out and let me know if you have any questions about it. Trade permits is on the way, I've just had an absolutely miserable week at work and haven't really had the time or energy to write much. I'll get on updating this as soon as I recharge a bit.

Poor you. Fortunately you have this wonderful new (albeit unfinished) game to play while you are recharging ...

fallen and grävling, thanks! For some reason we've gotten a spike in the amount of documents were translating and a huge dive in the quality of said documents. It's causing me a huge headache. This is something that I'm starting to notice and I'm wondering if it is actually true or if I'm just getting confirmation bias, but is water-fuel generally cheaper at refineries and orbital habitats? That kind of makes sense, since wf could be easily produced by a refinery and actually porting it to your ship would be way easier at an orbital. I've been routinely finding $3-7/WF prices at those two, whereas even an economy 10 industrial/high-tech/mining/etc. colony will generally give me around $10/WF

johndramey - it is not even easy to describe. Starport Rating (lower cost) Econ Rating (lower cost) Danger (Higher cost) Very High or Very Low Atmo (lower cost) High Military Rating (lower cost) Rumors (+/-) And Zone type. You are spot on that Orbital and Refinery are the cheapest!! Very wise, you are!

Very observant, that gentleman.
I haven't noticed cheaper at water worlds, though I went looking ...

johndramey , I notice in the OP that D+, D-, F+, and F- are missing from the table. Does this mean that there is no practical differentiation as far as trade is concerned? I know that I have run across F- many times. The resource can be bought or sold, only at an exorbitant or very low (respectively) prices.

Good question @earthsuit. I know that I've seen them as well, but they are not part of the math that Cory has shared with me. I know that F- is a special case that is basically rigged to prevent all but the best purchases from turning a profit, but I'm not sure if D- lands between D and F. Logically, I'd guess it does, but I cannot say for sure.

You get D- when the thing normally has a rating of D but they have less of the stuff than usual. Usually because you bought some, but I'll bet the economic simulator gets there for other reasons. (for buying. selling works the other way)

There is no D-
You can see the numbers go 0, 1, 2, 3, etc. They letters correspond to underlying numbers.

Another thing to look for then, if having that is a bug, 'cause while I could be remembering that wrong, I don't think so ....
