Mmm yes. Interesting one to try to balance, as we don't want to nerf its usefulness, but it can't be allowed to put a captain into all positives.
Interestingly, Trade Bans now have a minimum of -28 Rep. Could be a good paralell.

28? Why this non-round number? (And, -28 in one go? Ouch! Does that mean that ignoring a trade ban is worse than piracy?)
Another way to cap would be to use two max numbers. For instance, "If ship's Medical Rating is equal or higher than landing zone's Economy Rating, provide free care to citizens and gain Rep up to Doctor Skill or Charisma, whichever is lower."
That would be more ... personal ... than a fixed cap.

Must be a misunderstanding about what we mean about maximum/minimum. For Generous in Service, you won't be able to become a Star Hero (+500). You might be able to become well liked (+44) but that's about as far as it can take you. The Prince is impressed, but not that impressed. It would continue to be a great way to mitigate Rep issues with Factions where you are having issues.

Aaah. I see. So if you have, let's say, +44 (why those non-round numbers?) with a faction already, then Generous in Service will bring you nothing at all. Correct?

That's one prevailing theory about how to improve the balance. Same with trade, there is a negative limit. You can't become a Legendary Crime Lord by breaking trade bans.

OK. At first I thought it was a cap on how much rep could be earned in one go; now I realize it's a cap on how high (or low) a specific type of action can get your rep. I like it. From a game design point of view, at least. As a player, I'm crying.

johndramey Your priorties listed for the Clutch Popper template don't match what you have in the actual description. It's the same as your Long Hauler. For example, you say you have Experience at A, but it's still listed at D.

What a great guide johndramey, I just rolled my first merchant not too long ago and this was very helpful. Since you mentioned eventually updating the guide and adding more tips, if I may suggest for you to add your thoughts on a couple of items: +At the start of the game: the plus and minus of breaking or not breaking the trade embargo. +Same with the story line: the pros and cons of doing it or ignoring it as a merchant (because of the negative rep and loosing contact opportunities).
