Might I suggest you consider the "Obliterator Carrier"
This is without a doubt a FANTASTIC big hardened torp ship.
Massive guns and torps, huge armor to hull ratio with tons of space for weapons.

is the ship database up to date yet? If not, want to send the file over to me so I can wiki-fy it?

Getting BOTH Obliteration-class vessels. The name is reason enough to buy them. ;D

Pirate is the same design however I toned it down because giving the pirate AI the Obliterator hull was a good way for all our characters to get trashed.

Well, I am convinced . Still looking for the carrier, but the cruiser is fun. I guess I had to change my mindset around the upgrades for big ships a bit. Feels completely like a new game... Obliterator Cruiser's attack party boarded Royal Class and inflicted 165 damage taking 24 damage during the battle ... the enemy Captain was wounded in a Duel ... and KILLED!Me likey ;D. Also the W-F consumption changes feel good. I have to take some of my docked ships for the test ride. Wish there was Solar War or two . Reminds me of this game:

Probably meaning "class" and "difficulty"? Fenikso- MagBlast is a really funny game. MunchKin is funnier, though. ;D

Hey Danxx ... the style of captain makes a huge difference, depending on the style of play and what you want to do. Note that by mid-stage of the game and on, it really doesn't matter too much what you start as ... you end up doing contracts, hauling stuff and killing. lots of killing. blood everywhere ... dying ... death ...
oh ... back on topic.
I select Spy class for most of my characters now because of the boost in pilot, tactics, and stealth, and the electronics and weapons.
The Explorer class makes early stage exploration much more positive ...
The bounty hunter (and military officer) both offer great benefits to capture/kill contracts ...
Each class of captain offers something different. Even the classic "Star Trader" class is a really good one for all-round goodness. The only captain that I don't like is "Captain". He's like you've absorbed part of ole Turdlip, but otherwise nothing good.

For me, mid-game is around the 10k - 15k turns ... so maybe I'm not the best judge of when to change from the starting profession into a more generic type of operator

@cory - Can you please double check 4.1.11 changes to the operations W-F consumptions? I am getting:
With ship which has 0.245 consumption on Green: ~1.5 per turn With ship which has 0.332 consumption on Green: ~1.7 per turn With ship which has 0.460 consumption on Green: ~2.0 per turn With ship which has 0.622 consumption on Green: ~2.5 per turn
I understand that this is supposed to be Impossible, but I would expect at Level 100, Pilot 90, and Intimidate 40 something better.

You want something easy to find for hauling stupendous amounts of cargo ... try the Pride of De Valtos. It's a medium sized ship (18 hull, with 26 engines and 36 sails). It comes with a stock fitout of 120 cargo unit capacity! Just doing the Cargo Hold upgrade (+20%) will give you a hold of 144. Plus it's relatively fuel efficient. Shame about the guns and torps - but it is De Valtos not Cadar I just realized I'm playing in impossible and I haven't unlocked a lot of these ships.
