Since it is the neighborhood we've grown up in, could be neat for our "home quadrant" to be clear of the stuff.

Could be an early talent choice for a navigating officer? Maybe costs 2 vs 1

But not a big deal to me. Like the idea of hidden planets or orbitals or ??

Part of the game is exploration. We always have fights about removing fog during alphas. I was expecting this post Today the game uses the starchart logic to automatically defog the majority of the planets. It uses the same logic for home quadrant and remote quadrants. I can see a rules change that makes it slightly more sensivitive in the home quadrant. But ... that's also the home quadrant, the introduction. Do we want to deceive the player? And explain the difference on the forum all the time? That's a risk. There are always lots of questions. This should be a good thread

Also like the idea of hidden / lost / unknown worlds with abandoned orbitals, only wild zones, smuggler princes living on them.
In the future, Contacts will be able to introduce you to new worlds. Over time, as you sail around, take missions to new places, learn rumors, learn new contacts -- all of these defog the planets, so you're map will become full of places to visit that you didn't know where there before

Capture enemy ship, go find his log books, poof! see how your in-game map now has many new entries on it?

Capture enemy ship, go find his log books, poof! see how your in-game map now has many new entries on it? I love that for a Hyperwarp Navigator Talent that can be used on Ship Victory. Taken notes, great suggestion!

Also, no matter what you do, there will always be players who detest fog of war, and want an option to remove it altogether. Some of them even put it back, once they have learned the basic mechanics of the game ...

Sorry. Misunderstanding. I fully endorse the fog-'o-war. Is a great tool and more games should use it. My suggestion is a way to allow a new captain to be able to navigate his home quadrant while practicing his trade (which is really just a delivery guy at first), without having to spend a lot of time (and MONEY !!!) scooting around trying to see if he might of missed the bountiful ship wreck in the Galactic North East (GNE) and/or a juicy planet full of naive farmers in the GSW. You know, let him get his feet wet before he has to dive into the piranha pool. But, hey, definitely not a deal breaker. That clock I mentioned the other day though........

Yeah, I think that type of request falls more into map generation and density than fog of war. I misunderstood you.
We are working on improving the maps. This is part of why we cannot take these games to market without a coordinated alpha.
It is going to take a lot of iterations and tons of coding and listening, but we will get there.
