Okay, now that I have been doing this for a while I have reached a stage where I am feeling a desire for a different way to manage talents for officers and crew.
For my officers, and a few special crewmembers whose careers I am taking a personal interest in, what we have now works rather well. You focus on the person, and then decide what talent to select for him or her.
But I am finding that for the rest, I just don't have that much personal involvement. I think of these crewmembers as containers to hold talents. So what I would like is a screen that is talent-focused, rather than person-focused.
List each talent, one after each other, what it does, how many units of it we have in our crew as a whole, and how many more units of this we could train, with the final column -- train how many? which starts at 0.
I'd like this list to not include my officers and 'specials', I can see that others might prefer to include them, so make that a toggle.
Then you can say -- training. I'd like 3 more 'evasive maneuvers', '2 sharp steerings', 1 'meteor defense' and 1 'hotwire' please.
And I don't care who learns what -- you guys work it out. (Or is 'you guys work it out' a bad idea? If all the sharp steerings end up in one pilot instead of split among 3 of them, will I be unhappy about day to day performance in battle? Should the only guy who knows how to steer on the boat ever get killed, I can see that I will be unhappy, but we could have the game do the best job it can of spreading the skills among those eligible, if that is desirable.)
I'm finding I want to micromanage talents at the ship level, not at the crewman level. Thoughts?
