It took me several days to understand that 'No talents from the X Job' means that I have an officer with two or more Professions, (Job == Proression) but I haven't taken any talents from one of those professions. Up until that point I was thinking that what was meant was that we just did an Exploration Mission, (job == mission) and that job didn't give any talent points to my officer.
I wonder if changing the word Job to Profession will make things easier for newbies?

grävling - we don't plan to switch the major language to Profession. We could rewrite that line that has caused confusion. Before I saw this post, I was just looking at it, thinking it could be written simpler. Job System is a very common thing within video games: www.giantbomb.com/job-system/3015-298/games/We don't want to deviate from well-known terminology for exactly what the system does.

I'll bet if we did a word count, we would find that people talked about the ability to select skills/traits/what-have-you from different classes far more often than from different jobs. And, of course, people who come from CyberKnights have a strong bias in thinking they know what a job is. But no matter, if the line can be made less confusing, that is all that counts.

Agreed, I've simplified it down to "No Spy Talents learned yet" -- does that sound more straightforward? The game is a classic example of a Job System, definitely can't change that fact.

Sounds good to me. I think that if Final Fantasy was part of your past gaming history then the idea of a 'job system' will not be foreign to you. But if you gave JRPGs the pass growing up ....

Please excuse another question along these lines. I have not been able to understand why one would gain "talents" for a "job". To me, a talent is an innate ability to perform some act: play basketball, play a musical instrument, fly a kite.... If it is something derived from a job, something you are trained to do during the execution of your job, to me it is a skill. At work I am always reminded that I need to better develop my job skills. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually, but it is awkward for me.

@earthsuit - Jobs grant Skills and Talents. Talents are special abilities. That is language that comes straight out of our other games -- Heroes, Template Battleforce. It's Trese jargon I guess? Seems like its worked so far.

I too would have been happier if you talked of skills and abilities, not skills and talents, because talents are innate and not learned. But having played lots of TB games, I already sort of used to it, so its not so bad for me.

I could see the argument to call them abilities .. but I dunno, we've been consistent so far.
