This may be a bug, but my screen froze and the battle just started all of a sudden, no text-based encounter or options. Screens: Initial contactClicking on Xeno shipInevitable endingThings I've learned from this: - I hate/love Xenos in ST2 just as much as in ST1.
- Even though we started with same hull points, and the Xeno's torping prowess is worse than Steel Song's (maybe 1/3 missed, and the rest did on average less damage than my own torps), I should not be complacent and pay attention to my hull/health.
- (I think) Sharp Steering really helps me hold my desired range (assuming the Xeno had tried to advance). I stayed at Range 5 for the entire battle.
- As a Merchant who has no intention of getting into close/boarding range, maybe I should have swapped my sword/gun people to other jobs. Also, I should have replaced my useless autoguns & lance with MORE TORPS, so I can actually fire 4 torps per turn.
Questions: - Where can I view ship/component damage and captain/crew health?
- I wouldn't have in this case, but how do I surrender mid-battle?
- Not a question, but it would be great if players could review the final state of own & enemy ships post-battle, much like in ST1.
I am now officially excited for ST2. I think I've learned as much as I can on Basic. Time to move on up...

athios - 1. We fixed the xeno introduction to go to the normal preamble combat screen. Xenos were skipping straight to combat. 2. Xeno will still be the terror of the stars 3. Xeno are not implemented. They don't look like xeno or fight like xeno (as you mentioned). 4. Sharp Steering is one of the best Talents for keeping whatever range you want prefer to fight at. 5. Completely avoiding having any fighting crew might help you with more ship ops crew, but if you do ever end up in a boarding battle, it will be immediately loss and major damage to your ship. Having at least 4 is probably a good idea. 6. Your ship can be upgraded anyway you like But, if you are too focused (all Torps) and someone is able to advance on you, you may find that you regret your decision! I would say, make sure you have some weapons for every range slot. Ship stats aren't really in yet. We're working to improve. You cannot surrender mid-battle at the moment. For human opponents, we're working on this feature, though if their Hostility is already majorly negative, its going to be bad. You can see your own Ship/Crew status under the tabs post battle. When we get to a point of allowing you to start capturing enemy ships, we'll be sure you can see lots of status about them.

Xenos are currently zipping around in tiny little teapots, rejected by Steel Song and Rychart for being too ineffectual. (well, scout ships, actually). This will change.

Found one the other day, was a pretty nice scare, but just gently walked away from it. Didn't know those dirty De Vatos were employing aliens to do some pirating around the quadrant.

Ooooh, Xeno has a new flag now! Very exciting. Let's see if I survive this...
Edit: Yay! Made it through will little damage to ship. One crew did desert after I landed on a planet with no Doctor though...
