1. You normally triage the *wounded*, not the dying. Indeed, the whole point of triage may be that you ignore the dying ... 2.This is a talent that shows up for your OnStation Doctor, not your Combat Medic. But it has 4 dots left and right, like a combat talent, and the text reads: "In Crew Combat, Heals for +20 HP"
So is this for healing up crewmembers damaged in ship-to-ship combat? Or is this a combat medic talent, given to the wrong person? Or do I _still_ not understand something about Doctors and Combat Medics here?

Sounds great.
1. Renamed to "Treat Wounded" 2. Yes, this is a Doctor Talent. 3. The dots indicate that you can use this Talent in any position, on a friend in any position. 4. Each Combat Medic and Doctor have one talent that works the other way -- Combat Medic has the "Field Surgeon" saving Talent for Doctor but all other CM Talents are for Crew combat, and Doctor has Treat Wounded which can be used in Combat but all other Talents are passive/ship/landed.

Okay then, so if you never, ever, ever intend for your doctor to go on-Patrol, you should also never take this talent, because there will never be a chance to use it? (The sort of catastrophe that has your doctor going on-patrol anyway, because all your fighter-sorts are already dead, doesn't count.)

grävling - you could consider: 1) Being on Patrol is not the only way to get into combat. If you run out of Patrol folks, anyone On Station may be randomly pulled into combat. 2) Make an Officer, Soldier+Doctor Jobs. The Talent suddenly is very nice, plus you have the option of having other non-combat usefulness. Passive Talents are always used, regardless of Patrol / Station status.

I am finding this really confusing.
I have so many fighter sorts, that I think that the chance of my doctor ever being pulled into combat is remote. To put it another way, if the enemy is good enough to destroy 7 of my fighting specialist crew, then it really doesn't matter who gets pulled out to fight next, they are just going to die, period.
If I wanted to give medical training to a solider Officer, I would make him a medical tech. Indeed, I am _already_ doing that. If there is some reason why it would be preferable to make your on-patrol soldier a doctor, I need to have that explained to me. Or is the idea that you want to have some soldiers sitting around your ship as on-station officers? Again, why would you want to do that?

I can understand if you don't find that the options fit your strategy. But, the options are there if they fit your strategy. I personally use Doctor+Soldier often. Combat Medics get Pistol Skill. That job does not match well with Bounty Hunter or Soldier. Having healing ability in Crew Combat can be very powerful to avoid deaths, especially important on higher difficulty. Again -- there are options, they may or may not fit your strategy, that is very understandable.

Interesting point doctor / soldier but admit I never went for that thinking that if on patrol the doctor passive talents not used for crew stationed on ship during events/roll checks?

On Patrol / On Station has no effect on whether or not a Talent is used. If a Doctor is On Station, she can use his Talent to prevent Doctor failures, but if she is On Patrol she is also in position to prevent Doctor failures with her Talent.

Okay, that is the part that many, many, many of us have misunderstood. Maybe I want to send a soldier-doctor *and* a pistoleer-medical tech out on capture missions. Will my soldier-doctor, who is set to be 'on-Patrol' get to use his doctoring skills while I am flying around, getting shot at by Steel Song Pirates, Patrolling and Exploring?

So if a crew is on patrol then their; 1. Traits work during all non-combat checks 2. Personnel skill points (doctor, command, negotiate, explorer, intimidate) work during all non-combat combat checks 3. Personnel talents work during all non-combat combat checks ?

To quote the section about "On Patrol / On Station" "Regardless of whether you are On Patrol or On Station, your Talents and Traits are always be used to help a situation at hand. If you happen to have a Talent that prevents Tactics Failures or Navigation Failures, either could be used to prevent a test failure, regardless of whether you are On Patrol or On Station." startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/14606/st2-rules-explanation-thread

From what I understand...
On Patrol means that traits/talents get used but skill points don't, except in combat where they each use their personal skill points.
While being On Station trait/talents and skill points get used, and the skill points are pooled from everyone else On Station.
