Lore Question: How do we find out about Trade Bans, etc.

Right now I would really like to phone up my Bounty Hunter contact, who is 6 zones away, and ask him if there is anybody else he wants captured around here, before I leave the zone. But, alas, I cannot do that. But it got me wondering. How do we find out about all the Faction Politics stuff? Is there a delay between when Peace breaks out, and captains get told about it, as in the age of Sail, where you could decisively win a Naval battle only to discover that it 'didn't count' because the war was officially over when the battle happened, though neither you nor your opponent had received this news yet.

In the initial status screen, there is an icon on the left labeled "Politics". Would be kinda nice if it were available in the mission description screens too.
