Maybe when we deploy ourselves on a mission a "bread crumb trail" could trace our previous path? As in the ship travels and illuminated dots trail the travel path for a time, maybe seven paces, after which they disappear, but the trail continues with illuminated dots relative to where the ship is. They would have to time out regardless to make sense. So if you travel your ship, but set down your device to answer the door or something, the dots are a temporary thing. Just a thought. Hopefully I explained it well.
The purpose being tracking your ship well on mobile. I'm on android. Everyone likes pretty lights.

We will work on the visuals.

A 'please centre the screen on my ship, I have lost her' button would be great, too.

It all hinges on how well the UI works. If you never lose your ship, that button isn't a thing anyone would want. The idea to display a trail of some type of very common in space games. It wouldn't dots -- that's too grid-based / ST RPG and people hate that. But some graphics, we should definitely use graphics. I'm gonna get after fallen about this

Also if your on a mission or going to see a contact the ship will take off zooming across a quadrant and your screen stays focused on where you started not the ship so unless you were watching closely when it started moving you could have a hard time finding it prior to it reaching the planet orbit/jump point it's heading for.

It all hinges on how well the UI works. As stated a few places, the HUD and map UI are alpha. Sorry.

Yeah, exactly. It all hinges on how well the UI works. If you never lose your ship then none of those other features are needed as adds -- they already exist as part of the UI or they're unnecessary because of the UI. That's all I am trying to say.

I think we're all saying the same thing. This stuff with "no easy way to do X" is just because the UI is not done.
We're all agreeing that the UI isn't done, and doesn't do the things that it will do when it is done.
With a note added that says that since the UI isn't done, it also isn't showing the pretty graphics it will show when it is done.

A heat trail would be cool, although I'm not sure that's physically possible in the void of space?

A heat trail would be cool, although I'm not sure that's physically possible in the void of space? Engines produce and radiate heat

Did anyone ever play Homeworld? I didn't, but I always loved the look of how their engines trailed.

Never played, but Bing says you're getting warm. At least for this spacer.
