I just recruited a level 1 Pilot. I churned through a few before I found one with decent Stamina/Resilience and 6 Doctor. Great!
They are On Station, their Pilot skill is added to the Pilot Pool on the status screen, but their Doctor skill is not added to the Doctor pool.
What do I have to do to get those Doctor point in my Doctor pool?

Thanks Brutus Aurelius. Are you saying as soon as I promote them to officer their Doctor skill will be added to the ships pool? In other words, I don't have to assign them the job Doctor for the skills to make it into the pool. That might be motivation enough for me to get that 5th officers cabin and promote the new recruit. I'm not sure how this works. Do only officers contribute non-job related skills to ship pools?

Next update will resolve this bug.
All crew / officer / captain will correctly contribute all skills to all pools.
A doctor among the crew is a good thing, even if not an officer.

Just to clarify, the extra doctor points aren't added to the pool until the crew member has at least one point in Doctor (through the job)?

You've found a place to hire doctors in the crew? Or are you talking about regular crew members who happen to have some points in doctor?

Regular crew with extra points in Doctor, the one between [n].

Sorry this is confusing We're working to improve. If you are talking about an individual crew skill bonus like Doctor: 0 [3] ... then that bonus is ONLY used if the character is an officer. Otherwise, it is just potential, but the crew member is locked into whatever roll they are doing on the ship. If the bonus is a combat skill, then the points are used in combat, such as Evasion 0 [4]. This could help drive a decision that this crew member should be Promoted to being a Doctor or a Combat Medic. We're working on improved display to make this clear.

Well, if fallen says a doctor in the crew, even if not an officer is a good thing, then, hmm, sounds to me that they don't need a doctor job. And that my strategy of finding such people and making officers out of them, sending them off for doctor and combat medical training may not be as clever as I thought.nevermind, fallen and I were both typing at the same time, and he got his clarification out there first.

grävling - sorry, I was originally responding to the question "What if I have a crew member with Doctor job who has the skill Doctor 3 ... why is it not showing in my Skill Pools?" Which is not the question. But the bug related to that is fixed in next release.

Traits, Attributes, pre-existing Job, and these potential Skill bonuses are some of the big decision points you can use to help pick your Officers from among the entire crew.

I have an awesome Soldier (rifles) that has a bonus on pistol 0[5] and Doctor 0[6]. Is it normal to have these cross combat bonus on crew dogs? i.e. Soldier with pistol bonus skill.

It is possible, yes. Skills won't always line up with the Job. He joined the military and someone shoved a rifle into his hands as a young man. He's quick and sure with his hands and would have been better suited to being a Pistoleer or a Doctor but ... the drill sergeant at the FDF didn't want to hear it.
