Has anyone tried using the Staff for Melee and developed it for Vincent or Kyera. I was considering creating a dexterity based Kyera, but when I compare the staff damage to clubs there is a HUGE drop off. Is this workable? She really only needs to melee in crowds as EA, her divine spells, and lack of MP talent keep her out of battle until the third round usually. But there are a lot of crowd fights. So would it actually look like curse, curse, jog to the battle line, and tap the enemy on the head a couple of times? Does she actually kill anything or is she knighting the enemy? LOL Thanks for the input.

It is not really intended to be workable. You might shop staves for their Parry, but most of the best staves are going to be driven by their magical bonuses.
If you want more than a love-tap, you should pick up a hammer.

There is an endgame staff with some pretty awesome magic damage on it (16 magic damage I think) that would hit really hard with Vincent and Fyona Strickening. Till then staves are strictly inferior in melee.

I haven't tried a Melee Vincent. What challenges did you have giving up ranged AoE attacks?

Confession time: Vincent is my favorite caster but I have never built him ranged... The furthest I have gotten is episode 2 with an LS build but I missed his Thundering blades so much I respecced him. From my limited knowledge of ranged Vincent I would say you are exchanging insane AE damage and frequent potioning for moderate single target damage (it becomes great damage when you get a scything blade at the close of episode 1), group utility, mild cursing, more SP efficiency, and more headaches maneuvering him around so he does not get hit. Late game I would guess the damage for melee is quite superior (Elemental Sundering hits really hard, like 400 normal 750 crits at 1 AP, expensive though) he just transfers the points from LS to ES. I find melee to be better to get some key cursing done (1 AP let's him use all of his AP all the time) but lacking ranged attacks does leave key monsters alive occasionally (which Tamilin or Kincaid can often deal with). The trade you are making is that he is on the front lines (ES does give him good defense though) and all it takes is some spider to walk up to him and it's gg.
