So we get a surveillance bonus for electronics, a random events penalty for artifacts, a blockade & boarding bonus for weapons, and a fuel "allowance" for luxury resources. Are there any other modifiers for the other assets we can carry on the ship, or are they basically just there to be traded?
Like, I was thinking it'd be neat if the makeshift repairs thing was dependent on having, say, crystals for the sail and metals for the engine. That sort of thing.

I was wondering this too. One of many mysteries I hope there will eventually be a guide to on here or somewhere else. (I did find upgrading gave me much better guides though. Older versions didn't even tell me what a captain's skills were for. I was playing blind for quite a while.)

Are you talking about something other than the Player Guide provided in-game and on the blog/site?

Well, right now those resources are missing a lot. I was thinking this site gives an opportunity for more fan based content, taking some of the work off of the developers who are busy developing content.
The in game instructions have improved greatly since I first downloaded the game and that has helped quite a bit, but I still find myself constantly wondering how certain things work in the game, or thinking a more comprehensive guide where I could look things up would be useful.

I would suggest we start a thread about a specific part of the game. The problem right now is that ST RPG is very dense in terms of options, features and numbers.
So, for example if you wanted information from me to work on a guide / tutorial / cribsheet I'd be happy to help in a thread. Like "How Combat Works at Long Range" or "How Prices are Calculated" or whatever
