With 0 Military, you should get good rep boosts from patrolling there. Strong starport for refueling and upgrading. Does anything else add to the upside of patrolling here?
One thing that bugs me about patrolling. When you are in good reputation with the faction of planet you are patrolling, draw the naval encounter card, and then have to fight a ship from that same faction. From a story perspective, I expect a naval ship from a faction in which I'm in good standing to either ask for tribute or just let me go. What do you think?

Agree. Had to fight one this morning. I couldn't flee so I was destroyed. Since I was on basic, I was still alive. Ran into a pirate 2 AU from that encounter, and could not even escape it or even fire a weapon due to how much damage had been done by the navy. Over 40K creds to fix, doctor, spice, etc. Since this was in very early game, I could not afford the fix, so I had to abandon the captain.  |
