I made a new bounty hunter, who had 4 connections, and his politician contact didn't know anybody at all to introduce me to when I met him, very shortly after the start of the game.

I made a new bounty hunter, who had 4 connections, and his politician contact didn't know anybody at all to introduce me to when I met him, very shortly after the start of the game. Yeah ... honestly the Contact Link allocation routine is total crap. It lets us get basic test data but the link matrix is generates is awfully bad. |

athios, which class has that talent? Merchant, available at Level 1 if you have a talent point free. Market RumorsWhen executing a trade at the Exchange worth over $5,000, chance of gaining an introduction to a Contact from the local Faction. |

If you're on a 20 Quadrant map, there are probably close to 300 active Contacts at any given time. Ohhh, that means I've almost met half of them!   |

Wow, for the first time ever I'm playing a game with no Merchant on board. It's sooo hard to find non-home-Faction Contacts right now. I'm already level 16-ish (with 30 Crew), and have less than 10 Contacts from other Factions. That's probably equivalent to a 5-fold drop from the usual.

Getting E-tech crew gives me lots of contacts from Listening Post, I think it's called. Now if only they weren't like 8 jumps away... |

athios: I have found that patrolling is the fastest way to get more non-faction contacts. Getting them via intraductions is slow.

I get farther contacts from both but my definition of farther is kinda large. I don't like to leave my home space for long if I can help it. |
