Perma Death?

So playing on hard and had a fight with an extremely hostile pirate that crashed me to desktop half way through (sent report). Restarted game, loaded Captain and returned in middle of fight. Won the fight but had to do massive repairs and replace a 3rd of my crew. Exit port and run into second Pirate same faction, same location (was heading to jump point for mission).

Looked like I was winning when suddenly screen pops up saying that while my crew had fought valiantly we were defeated and had been looted.
Checked combat reports to see how when my ship was showing much less damage than the enemy ship I had managed to instantly lose fight.

Said I'd been killed which is what had triggered the loss but there I was back in my (damaged and again short-handed) ship ready to continue on.

Exited to main menu and double checked that yes Hard is listed as Permadeath so how was that not game over when my Captain died?

Sounds like you should be dead.

We are, of course, working on better warnings throughout combat as to your impending defeat and giving more options to stave it off.
