I read an article recently about game developers intentionally leaving or creating "bad" items in their games to challenge players: by beating the game with said terrible item, or discovering an effective use for said item. Have you guys - Cory Trese and fallen - tried this? And/or would you be willing to try this?

Nothing comes to mind for me. In terms of tactical RPGs, you could always just try to beat the game with the starting sword (good luck!! lol).

Star Traders RPG ship designer intentionally doesn't limit how bad of a ship you can make.
This is a common thing I get emails about, "I made it to level 50 on impossible in this piece of crap ship, look!"

My god, that would make hitting and parrying so much harder to do, especially on Cory's super secret nightmare/ironman lvl 3... Perhaps when crafting is done you can put in cursed items that you can't take off without spending a bloodstone or something... Beware stealing treasure from the evil Baron's minions... š

Cory Trese go get some coffee and check this one againĀ Ā To be fair, nothing in the op suggested limit it to HoS only, even though that was the thread shadows chose instead of general... So I don't think Cory was off base in that regard.

fallen - I guess intentionally bad wouldn't work for HoS lol. I like the idea of cursed items though

fallen - I guess intentionally bad wouldn't work for HoS lol. I like the idea of cursed items though Yeah, it is hard to do in HoS as the weapons have so much scale in them. Part of the game is finding, buying, looting (and soon crafting) a constant stream of upgrades for all of your gear. Hard to imagine you'd ever have one item you'd carry around all the time. You could make a challenge like "only wear 1 gear" or something?
