Ship customisation will be covered / released in a later alpha phase, but if you could answer an early question it would be greatly appreciated.
How deep will the customisation go? Will it be at the component level where we are given a hull with a predetermined set of compartments, or will it be at the compartment level where we can choose how many compartments of each size we use?
With my current captain / ship I would like to reconfigure a medium compartment for two small compartments. Will that capability be available in the final version?
I understand that the current situation is quite artificial since you cannot upgrade ships, but I feel that the option to reconfigure the compartments could be quite desirable.

No, there will be no modification to the Hull's deck layout permitted in the final version.
Specifically: you will NOT be able to remove a Medium Compartment and insert 2 Small Compartments.
For performance, portability, version compatibility, balance and ship design deck variety, this cannot be permitted.
We traded that option away very, very early and very, very permanently. I'm confident it will never be possible. I'm actually confident that in the end, it would not have been desirable either. I will try to convince you I'm right.
What we traded it for was well, well worth it. Coming in a future phase.

However, there will be a rich catalog of ship hulls to pick from. We've got 14 more in testing atm.

It will be worth it. In every design, we had to drawn the line somewhere. We did our best with our budget to get as much scope as possible.

The very first Kickstarter project I backed was another game. The creators were so consumed by their own visions of their "ideal" game that things went completely overbudget, it dragged on for I think 4-5 years (meanwhile releasing a few other games), and in the end had to be cancelled because what they wanted to deliver wasn't at all feasible from a financial or resource perspective. You two are doing a great job so far, and I have full confidence that whatever ends up getting released will be more than most of us here expected. <thumbs up>

In the last month, I got cancellation notices for two KickStarter games I backed during 2013 when we ran the Heroes of Steel KickStarter. Hard to see, but it is challenging to match dreams and ambition with reality and budget, especially if its your first rodeo.
