Hey guys, it's been awhile. I was playing through ST4X yesterday -- and I haven't played ST2 yet, but I got to thinking ... ... what if you could take a map from ST4X and import it into ST2 -- or even old ST -- as the basis for a campaign? The idea being is to take your ST4X campaign and insert your ST2 captain into it. Say, take a snapshot of the 4X game as of year 8.0 AE. There are three factions. At game start, there are politics of various kinds. There are colonies. There is an alien presence, and alien worlds. Now take that snapshot map and move it over to ST2. Now you can fly your ST2 ship around that same map between the colonies you founded in 4X. You can scout out portions of the map not yet uncovered in 4X. You can fly by the alien worlds and have alien encounters. The ST2 system will still generate missions, politics, and rumors, but it'll use the initial 'snapshot' as 'ground zero' for the campaign. You could even use the ST4X as a kind of map generator for ST2, and play the game not necessarily to *win* , but simply to set up a favorable campaign map for the other game. Does that sound like fun? I realize the technical feasibility is daunting , but that's why this is a 'wish list' item, not the "easy to implement, cheap to build" list . Respectfully, Brian P.

We thought a bit about this, but decided it wasn't really worth it. In this case, the player just has to use his or her imagination.
Some of the maps in ST 4X may make special appearances in ST2's story mode ... as well as planets you maybe visited in BF.
That said, all of our efforts for import/export will be focused 100% on the Kickstarter promises.
Beyond that, we simply do not have the resources to pursue it.
The idea of importing and exporting between different games is so cool sounding ... I don't know if it would work, but if we had unlimited funds and unlimited time, I would definitely want to try it.

Understood. You can still keep the idea in the wish list -- if not implemented itself, then perhaps as fodder for other ideas.
Great games, as always!
Respectfully,
