athios - if you really want it good, then snag the Stiff Salute Talent and gain Rep on meeting those Military Officers. Oh! I thought Stiff Salute was just used to escape from hostile Military (as it's described), and has been working well for me in that regard. This alternative use is good to know. Thanks!

Yeah, lots and lots of Talent will have unsubscribed secondary uses.

undescribed? as-yet-unimplemented?

undescribed? as-yet-unimplemented? No, it is just the nature of this type of game. Many Talents will have secret / secondary / alternate / undocumented ways that they can be used. I honestly cannot even, at this point, hope to predict all the different ways the "event to talent" joiner will work. Strategies, uses and applications will emerge from the playerbase and we'll learn about new ways that things can be combined as the game goes through alpha and into release. Hopefully we'll still be finding new Talent use points a year after the game comes out.

I just didn't know what 'unsubscribed' meant in that context.

A typo sorry. I was trying to say "un-described"
As in, that they will not be listed anywhere in the game explicitly.

Personally find the card mini games frustrating at this point. Most of that stems from I can see immediate bad effects from them, but rarely do I see any possible positive results in regards to +rep, records, monetary gains etc. I mostly find myself only playing those games when a mission calls for me to because the negative possibilities seem to always outweigh positive results even with talents to remove/change negative cards and that supposedly boost positive rewards.
Think this is probably a result of the current UI not being the most user friendly and showing you any immediate good results unless you start really digging and keeping a very close eye on stuff after every card play.

xdesperado - sorry they are frustrating. The planned positive effects are generally displayed. The next update will improve. If you don't have Talents and Ship Components to improve your chances at the games, don't expect to be winning

I agree. The ship components really help buffer against negative effects.
If you are not seeing a lot of positive effect cards, it possible that you weren't at an ideal planet for that type of operation.
That said, I also got burnout after a while. Maybe it's just not my kind of thing...

ST2 Card games? Brilliant! Before getting into deeper play I thought you guys were making a mistake. For me this is one of the most fun features in the game. As Elvis once sang "Im in love, I'm all shook up" If I had to define success when playing HoS in one word? "Specialize!" I'm seeing the same in ST2. Additional Captains: I would like to see some of the current sub professions become Captain selections down the road. For example I would like to Specialize a Doctor Captain. Right now the only way, is to take one of the other 9 professions first. You have to split your Captain's job points, and lose a job slot, to achieve a high level Doctor. If you make an Officer specialize as Doctor that places them on a slower leveling track. Cards:Espionage Sweep Card: I was playing a Spy and thinking great, just wish I could get more than one of these cards. My Spy kept leveling bingo, Scouring Search pops up! Improvement? More cards! A level(18) or (32) Spy ought to be able to complete more rounds of orbital spying before having to cool down the talents. New cards need not eliminate the risk but could cushion the risk number. Example: You draw -5 for Crew death, New card could add +3 to any drawn card good or bad. After all a high level Spy should have more than just good luck getting the mission success card. Vigilant Search Card: Explorer. Same thoughts, Big deal I only get one. Sure enough along comes Reduced Exposure lol Note: Exo-Scout I haven't leveled one of these very high but I'm hoping to see a similar exploration card talent come up. Methodical Sweep Card: If you like Patrolling the average crewman can take Methodical Sweep, which will generate allot of remove risks cards in a hurry. I also cross pollinated. A Spy Captain with level(1) explorer job, with an Officer Explorer with level(1) Spy. This added even more remove danger cards for both missions. Ship Components: There are allot of small mass, inexpensive components that help when things go belly up at the card table, here is just one example: Small ship component | Matchweave EVA Suits | Reduces crew damage 50% during Exploring, Spying, Blockade or Patrol |
Current Personal Favorites Spy | Espionage Sweep | Spy for orbit remove risk card | Spy | Scouring Search | Spy remove risk & replace with Data Reward card | Crew | Methodical Sweep | Patrolling system remove risk card | Explorer | Vigilant Search | Exploring remove risk card | Explorer | Reduced Exposure | Wild zone remove risk card |
Cory Trese , fallen Using a virtual megaphone to rally my demonstration. "What do we want?" "More Cards" "When do we want them?" "Now!" Great job fellas keep-em coming!

Nice work John Robinson big +1 Bit concerned about the lack of Captain Dummy, hope he's just getting a well earned time out over the spice hall! Totally agree about specialising to get best effect from the mini-games; a strong skills pool, a couple of auto-saves and some talent switch cards can make all the difference, even in a low grade zone. Really good idea for a new talent card, adding +3 to the Hit Card. It makes sense that if you are highly skilled in your job that you should be able to turn some situations to your advantage. You are correct about the exo-scout, at higher levels they get an exploration switch card.

Thanks for the great analysis, awesome to see. If you're lacking Talents to continually play them during the Exploration or other mini-games, then try to recruit some more specialist crew or officers. We will be adding more result cards to the mini-games as the alpha progresses.
We're just adding an all new mini-game for the next update with a set of Talents etc, so we've got to keep moving forward here.
At this time, the Captain's profession is focused on direct leadership positions. Doctor is not considered a direct leadership position.
