1.) I'm currently flying a Scout using the Mass 2000 Void engine. I have enough space to upgrade to the Mass 2200 or the 2400 void engines. What will happen? Is there any advantage in doing so? The ship speed is already 30 so I figure it won't get any faster. 2.) I have a similar choice with Hyper Drives (screen snap 2). Currently installed is Hyper drive 1. I can upgrade to; Drive 1E, Drive 2 and Drive 2E. The same questions apply as above with one additional question. If you upgrade your Void engine, and your hyper drive at the same time, are they some how related for an overall effect?

Drive 1E will give you more efficient jumps.
High mass engines and warp drives give you small incrememental bonuses based on the % overmass.
30 is not the total max, if you install a 2200 mass engine with 30 speed on a 2000 effective hull ship you end up with a 10% bonus (200 of 2000) and effectively have 33 Speed. I don't think 2200 has 30 so you'd have to do some math to decide how to min/max that exact setup.
Only HULL MASS matters -- we don't currently give any bonus for stripping off COMPONENT MASS

In the future, is the only way to increase Mass changing ships?

In the future, is the only way to increase Mass changing ships? Yes, 100% the only way to increase base hull mass is to get a hull with more base mass. That will not/cannot/shall not change at any point in the ST2 development, pre or post, release. I won't really be able to discuss it because all I can hear is "you should start over"

Cory Trese thanks! Have to shave razor thin on my little scout. I wish I could rip out the cargo bay, don't use it anyway, and it won't support a fighter bay. I'm guessing post Alpha we will see Respec. I don't even want to get it too soon. There is tremendous value in learning how to use the amount of content that is coming. I personally would find early access to Respec too confusing. Gives me a headache how Respec would work on the scout let alone the other monsters. Stepping back aboard the good ship "Milk-toast Warrior" continuing my sojourn into the void.

What does the hyperwarp drive description mean when it says 'requires 2500 for hyperwarp jump'. The scout has a hull mass of 2200 but starts with a mass 2000 void engine and needs 2500 somethings to hyperwarp jump. Can you explain the inter-relationship between engines and hyperwarp drives please? Or are the engine components something that will appear properly in a later phase?

The same as all our other mass based games. They're just level limiters, strictly.
That Scout thing sounds like a bug. I'll look.
EDIT: Confirm, Scout was bugged and is fixed for next.

A big benefit for upgrading engines is the increased skill soak values which gives you more strong dice to roll. Having them deliver increased performance in combat or added fuel efficiency is just icing on the cake for me currently.

Increased soak universally means worse fuel economy, going over mass on engines consumes *extra* fuel, not less.
