I also went with a clean install since I was pretty much "done with" my previous captains anyway. By the way, I've noticed that regular crew can now spawn with bonus Combat skills as well as Tactics and Repair. I like. Thx, we fixed all the issue with badly overlapping skills (Pistoleers with Rifles) and expanded on the value of Skill pts for everyone to encourage exciting officer choices. As you can see, I got one with Pistols and Blades, though. Bug? or Allowed?

I've done a clean install too. My last captain was getting a bit stale. Great work you two! I just barely managed to stop myself from playing this morning because I gotta play the bills and spend time with my son who returns to college tomorrow.

I'm not sure if I'm late to the game due to my vacation/being busy at work or if the rebalance of job skills happened in this version, but I gotta say that I like it regardless of when it happened. Before, I felt like I was overloaded with low level skills, usually having 5 or 6 repeats of the same low level crewdog/navigator/pilot skills. Now, I actually have to consider what I'm choosing.
I have an engineer officer as well, interesting to see the new class. Might I ask what sets the engineer apart from, say, the mechanic/electronics tech?
All in all, each version of ST2 exceeds my expectations and makes me even more excited for the final version. I honestly cannot imagine what phase 2 will bring us.

johndramey - glad to see you like the new Skill bonus rebalance. The change to Skill pts granted on Job Rank 1 and Job Rank 2 also helps give incentives to go to Rank 2 instead of spamming 3 jobs. Engineer, Mechanic, and E-Tech are all in a 3 part venn diagram with each other. Notably, Mechanic had their Electronics skill nerfed this release in order to pick up Ship Ops, which makes a few Mechanics a more viable way to keep down your count of Crew Dogs. When the big Wiki dump comes with every Job Rank, skill bonus, and all the Talents, I think it will get much clearer. Out of an Engineer's first 8 Talents, 6 are combat related.

fallen, awesome! Glad I picked up that engineer then, since my latest merchant is a more piraty kind of merchant. I'm absolutely loving the missile pods, by the way. I currently have 2 level 4 missiles and 1 level 3 torpedo on my merchant. I will generally avoid combat, but if a pirate or a xeno comes up... I pounce! Pop evasive maneuvers and a combat talent, and just let loose with all my weapons. Easily deal over 400 damage a round, usually enough to knock out fighters in 2-4 rounds. My overabundance of pilots and navigators also allows me to always stay at extreme range *and* avoid a good solid 50% of incoming attacks. On hard! Loving combat merchant. I just need to get her a few smuggling contacts, and I'll be golden. Getting $20k a pop for each xeno has been a nice incentive, as well.

johndramey - once xenos are really xenos ... you might change that tune Can't wait to see them come to life. It's an ST tradition - the terror of the xeno. But, the reward will always be there. Sounds like a really effective build, a Merchant who can defend himself!

Bring 'em on is all I can say. So far, nothing has been able to withstand the dreaded storm 'o death that Paula Blieth has been vomiting at extreme range. I've not lost a single crew member to combat death and I'm already up at level 8 or so after starting at level 2. Killed me a whole bucket load of pirates and xenos, always being sure to loot all the spice I can get my hands on!

A special kind of merchant. I like to think that poor Paula was picked on a bit as a kid so she takes it out on the bullies in the sector!

I know what special kind of Merchant she is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_WallNote we are discussing this in v1.0.29 but it is v1.0.31 we are discussing, I think.
