This idea has sort of been bouncing around in my head for a while and decided to share it here to see what others think.
Currently the Main UI screens have us external to ship, i.e. on quadrant/orbital maps and viewing the starport/wilderness when landed.
My thought is that instead we have a "Main" UI screen that represented the captains station/ready room/bridge on board our ships. If you want to plot courses or actually move you'd select the navigation station, select engineering to consult ship layout and damage reports, exit via hatch to go into starport/orbital station etc.
My thinking is it would add a bit more immersion plus might help clean up and streamline rest of UI since for example accessing navigation to call up maps wouldn't necessarily mean you had to be off planet and actually planning to go someplace.
Could have a limited number of clickable options in this top "main" UI screen that then would let you delve down into the various tasks and available information.

Sounds cool, definitely thanks for sharing! We're working toward eliminating any need to change your position in the map-orbit-landed to view data like missions or the quadrant map.

The thing with not having maps outside of the maps screen is just alpha UI. Thanks! PS: We definitely tried that idea in prototyping. We're going to stick with the current design, since that's what we spent all the money on
