It appears if you take a smaller ship into a dock with a larger ship already in it, and select the larger ship, the larger ship's crew is reduced to match the crew number of the smaller ship.
I noticed this while playing version 4.1.9 as a bounty hunter on hard.

Funnily enough, with ship sales the crew actually stays with the ship. Your old crew stays around in dry dock and you get a new bunch of folk for your new vessel. The only thing that migrates across automatically are your officers, and that's only because you've fitted them with explosive collars and if they stray more than 1km away from you, their heads explode.
So advantages - if your original crew was close to mutiny, when you get a new ship, you get a new crew with a happier disposition. Your old crew will still continue to be unhappy if ever you decide to swap back to your old ship again.
You still need to recruit in some cases as the ship you buy may not have enough punters who want to stick around post-sale.

Strangely, after 50 years, my old crew in the Vae Victus are STILL there!
If I knew they were THAT loyal,I'd have ditched my current crew of mutineering bastards for them!

This is what he meant, Cory.
1) Dry-dock already has 1 ship with 100 Crew 2) Player comes in with ship with 50 crew 3) Player switches to dry-docked ship with 100 Crew. 4) Ship now contains only 50 instead of 100 crew.

OH good point ... I read it back to front ... you shouldn't lose crew when you take a larger ship out of dry dock.

Thank you, blackgauntlet. Sorry I was not clear, but you described my problem correctly.

I believe credits are the sincerest form of appreciation than "thank you".
Take down this no., would you?
I'll be expecting a couple thousand richer in my 1st Interstellar Trust Bank of Cadar account.
