No honestly, the title of this tread is a typo.
The mission was called "Cafrix" but when I went back and checked the ST RPG Elite game map does not include Cafrix Solaris so I moved the game to a fringe world that does exist on the ST RPG Elite map.
It looks like the star map that the game originally used was drawn on a rectangular piece of paper but the map is square so some worlds got trimmed off.

Ahh ... so there are hidden worlds in ST RPG that exist on paper but are missing from the game itself. how intriguing

We shall see those worlds in ST2's expanded universe, no doubt. More races! Energy-type aliens, anyone? ;D

They only have one, I think -- TileEd.
We use 0.9.0

I really do sometimes forget that some apps don't have Android versions. I wonder if I couldn't just hack the XML and use the game as a viewer just as easily. Hey, a use for my outdated Amazon copy!

It is probably possible to extract the TMX from the APK and reconstruct the pre-compiler's steps somehow or another. I'm not sure why you'd want to do that tho. If you need anything from us we'd be happy to provide it.

I still think allowing user designed maps would be the single most enjoyable upgrade. Would never run out of maps. :-)

I still think allowing user designed maps would be the single most enjoyable upgrade. Would never run out of maps. :-) But the least enjoyable upgrade from a support standpoint. I'd have to stand there and what a thousand people rip us apart for adding permissions. I'm happy to work with Elite supporters if they really want to design maps. The map editor we use, TileEd isn't exactly user friendly so I think anyone building maps would need help from the developers to validate them. We could add them to the map list and compile them into the game, but adding on-demand user definable maps that could be exported and shared without being built into the game has a LOT of huge technical limitations for a mobile game. Ones I'm sure we can overcome without a major change in our team structure.

Would it not be possible to have seperate app for downloading maps and putting them in map folder? That way there would be no change to permissions for the actual game app. I think I recall reading somewhere that the map editor you use saved the maps in XML format.
Or would that be a significant change to the game engine?
I agree though wouldn't make sense you two having to verify and compile users maps... that would probably be way too time consuming.

Or would that be a significant change to the game engine? Significant change to the game engine, and a real challenge to re-architect the mapping system in STE (CK, HoS, ZR and iST all share the same map compiler) around an Android CPU and non-compiled resources. We have a set of pre-processing applications that prepare the XML format for ingestion in the game, register it with object code and pre-calculate a bunch of vectors that are used for the AI and the LOS system. I totally get what you're asking for and we've put it into the architecture conceptual functions documentation. STE will continue to evolve and perhaps with enough time a feature like this one could be added.

Fair enough... if its that much of a change, I'm sure there are easier low-hanging fruit that can add more playability quicker and easier then.
