So you beat the aliens, held out for the required number of turns to win the mission. You get a nice summary screen that asks you if you want to carry on ("Vae Victis Templar!"), or if you want to retry the level.
My question is ... if you decide to retry the level, do you keep the XP from what you just accomplished, or is the level truly reset - is it as though you never played that level (ie, no XP gained until you beat the level again?).

No xp for retry, I played with that a few times. I had 2 glitches tho; once I won, hit vae victus (or maybe accidentally hit retry) whichever button I hit should have taken me to squad control but instead I went right back to the beginning of combat. Then I aborted and I was back to briefing WITH xp for winning but still had to play again and got xp again. I tried to duplicate this but couldnt
And once I didn't finish a level cause I left the program to do other stuff, came back and the program had timed out but I had xp. Can't duplicate that either.

I'm not sure Rico's reports reflect confusion, issues with the report or with an early version of the application. slayernz -- the function that gives out XP is behind the "Vae Victis Templar" button. The function (the code) that gives out XP literally lives INSIDE that button. You cannot get it to run without that button. It does not exist ANYWHERE else in the code. So if you got XP you got it from Victory button.

That's great to know. Was just curious to see if I could speed up XP generation by repeating a mission without having to go through the briefing again. You know - "Reading is fine, but killing is divine".

After going through the campaigns, I'd love it if the captains that did those campaigns could go back and do them again in addition to the Skirmish games they get access too. It's understandable that you want to have a particular balance of difficulty when going through a campaign to begin with, but you should definitely be able to replay that campaign with your improved soldiers. Part of the replay fun is to enjoy the story more and worry less about dying so much.

I think I suggested that before... sorry, can't recall where I wrote it though.

I have been hard at work on this issue.
I have done a great deal of meditation and the result is a new design.
I am giving up some of my "want to have" features in favor of a new "need to have" design goal around Campaigns and long running squads.
I am now working out the details of an advanced "Campaign Requirements" object and validation routine.
This will allow Campaigns to specify certain things -- minimum, maximum XP, minimum # of scouts, soldiers, hydras, heavies, minimum total number of templars and so on.

I am amazed at how much similarity we have in your vision and my expectation on TA. ;D Attachments:

Well, it didn't work on me cos... I never played Mechwarrior 3! ;D Not because I hate it but because I happened to have a PC which couldn't handle that game then. And when I could afford a new one, that game was discontinued... so...
