why can i sometimes only trade in for a new ship?

hi guys,

recently a few times when ive seen a nice ship i want to buy, it will
only let me trade in for it - but i dont want to lose my current good ol ship :/
ive got buckets of cash, so dont see why

oh right - i didnt realise you could dock your ship before buying another

If you do not have Military Base / Dry Dock access at that Starport then you cannot purchase. Then the button is greyed out.

This is a basic rule of the game because if it did not exist you could purchase, but then not access, a ship.

Only well Reputationed and marqued Ship Masters may birth a starcraft in a docking base.

.....just checked Thulun mining and i do have military base open - so it isnt that reason - nothing in dry dock yet there though

has happened again on another planet - steel prima - military base open and dry dock - ships in dry dock already - i even went and changed my ship and then tried again but still only trade in showing - odd

20 ships is maximum if I recall correctly, maybe you are hitting the limit?
