Hello, my fellow knights!
It’s me, Rodraeg. Maybe a few of you remember me. I wrote the fanfic “Evolution”. I never read any of your comments, if there were any. But I hope, you liked it, at least a little. I have very low self esteem and am quite messed up in the head, so no sweat.
While I think about it, even if you did not like it, none of you would have been unfair with the critic, as you are all my fellow cyber knights. (Damn, I should have had the guts to have a look at possible comments...)
Wow, you don’t believe it who rose from the dead. The cyber knights had an update! And great work so far. Niara looks good. Okay, she looks basically like Ghost (and Grim looks like Joshua) but I can not even imagine how hard it is to animate a new character into the game. Do not get me wrong, I like Niara!
But first things first: Congratulations to the fifth birthday!
So, as this is the wishlist, let us get to business.
At first, when a direct combat starts, the aggressor is in the upper left corner of the screen and the defendant in the lower right corner. At the beginning there is a short popup window with a description who vs. who. It appears right over the aggressor. If it does not cost disproportionately amounts of work, it would be great to place this popup window in the upper right corner. So it would, at least not completely, conceal the aggressor and the fight could start immediately, without waiting for this popup to vanish and see the animation (which I like to see, since Niara is a real looker).
In the computer, there is the PDA, some kind of logbook. At the bottom of it, every knight finds important information (especially if you play “Made not Born”). It would be great if this logbook could also notify when the top of any ladder is reached and write it down. So you can not forget if you ever reached the top of a ladder and also know it is the final top.
(Beware, from this point on, there are some minor spoilers ahead, but as you are all veterans, this is old news.)
But the real thing are the operations. Are there some plans to get us some?
Right before the implementation of Niara I played “Made not Born” for the second time. And I noticed something. It is quite a task to reach the top of Victor’s (the Blue Ox) ladder. The reason is clear, their territory is way out in the nowhere and they constantly quarrel with the other gangs, at the other side of town. And if you have to go by foot, you must cross megacorporation territory. Now imagine what happens if you have to escort a noncombatant…
I know exactly what it means, as I am always playing on “Brutal” difficulty.
In “Dorchester”, there is “Ricco’s Boat Serv”. As the Fenninas are one of the rivals of the Blue Ox, they know of the boat service. So, after your knight reaches some amount of positive reputation (maybe 50), the Blue Ox should mention this problem, from being out of reach to its rivals. So they send you to talk to Ricco. Our knight takes on this operation.
At first he/she has to surveil Ricco, to make sure he is alone. If the area is clear, go to Ricco and negotiate, if he is willing to help you out.
If the check fails, the next try is to threaten him into cooperation.
If this check fails a group of enforcers should appear on scene and you need to fight them. After the fight is won or our knight successfully escapes, Ricco will either be intimidated by our fighting prowess or the fact that even his faction can not keep us away from him.
With Ricco in the party we need to reach Blue Ox territory and there he must be protected, from the Fennians. During this time Ricco helps with the construction of a new boat. (I am well aware Ricco only drives the boat and does not necessarily know how to repair or build it, but then I thought, why not, if his boat breaks down while on tour he is pretty much fucked if he did not know how to handle things on board.)
At this point it might be possible to make the operation bigger, by sending our knight getting some necessary parts, like an engine. After a few location changes (and possible fights) the Blue Ox has its own “Boat Serv”. It could be connected to either side of the Knight Horizon territories, as both factions are connected somehow, as Victor stated, when reaching the top of his ladder.
The reward for this operation should be of course the boat service and the possibility to use it, despite our knight’s heat! A reputation gain with the Blue Ox is mandatory, as a loss with the Fennians. A financial reward is not really important, as it could make our knights life way easier. Maybe it should even be possible to go directly into Fennian territory, for an increased amount of money of course.
So, what about Ricco, who is still in custody of the Blue Ox, you wonder?
Right you are. The Blue Ox could send him back with you, as they wanted to improve their own logistic capabilities and not start a war.
Or we could use the lore of the game. The Fenninas stick together and protect their own, as they do not become tired of telling the knight again and again. So next time the knight enters Fennian territory an enforcer squad should intercept him/her and drag him/her before the Kelly brothers. They give you a “choice” either get Ricco back home or get no work done ever again. This means, whenever the knight tries to enter a place with a connector (yes this includes places with backrooms) or wants to use a terminal the knight must be interrupted by a Fennian enforcer squad. The only thing possible is going into Blue Ox territory, free Ricco and get him home, safely. Damn, while I think about it, what if Ricco dies… Someone else takes over “Ricco’s Boat Serv” (the name should not be changed, to honor Ricco) and the knight has to do some work for the Fennians as amends, ten assignments maybe – without payment of course.
The city of New Boston has no real government, it is ruled by whatever faction owns a sector. But traditionally the Yakuza are criminals and BraveStar seems to be some kind of law enforcement. So let us use this for a small but rewarding operation. Again, after the knight has proven his/her loyalty to the Yakuza they suggest an operation. In the sector “Downtown Gateway” there is a “Global Bank Branch”. So the Yakuza sends the knight to surveil the situation and wants you to hack the “Bank” (if this is not yet implemented in the game, it needs to be). This gives you all the information needed (it could also be possible the Yakuza sends one of their own to accompany the knight and do the hacking, while the knight protects the Yakuza hacker). Now you know when they will try to move the big credsticks. So you go there again and take what you need - if you can.
For a successful escape you should reach the “Liberty Square” or to make it really interesting, how about blowing up the gate itself, like the vault in “Made not Born”. It could also be possible to intimidate the Gateway post to open the gate.
If the threaten check fails fight a BraveStar squad an then the gateway post ist automatically intimidated of course.
When you reach safe ground the Yakuza will hand the knight his/her share an they part way peacefully. The knight his/her reputation with the Yakuza should also increase. If you are feeling lucky and have the guts for it, then there should be the option to kill of the poor Yakuza guys and flee with all the money, which results in a reputation loss of course.
As money feels pretty much useless in the “endgame” (when every stat is maxed out, every safe house is bought, the gear is at the peak) this should be possible to be done quite early in the game, when the knight is able to survive in BraveStar territory. Damn, why did I even write this last sentence? When the knight is able to survive in BraveStar territory he/she is automatically able to do this operation…
What is the best medical equipment in the game? Nano-Ready Medkits, we all know and love them – but do not want to pay for them, as they are pretty much expensive. So why should the knight not be able to rob a monthly delivery of Nano-Ready Medkits? (Yes, as the word monthly indicates, this operation should be repeatable.) It could be for any of the three corporations. The only problem is, not one of them sells the damn things. Usually I would suggest “Frontline Medi-Secure” in the “AzTek Core” sector, but they do not sell them. But as they sell special medical gear, which you can only buy if you have the permission to enter the shop, they would be an ideal target for this operation.
So any hospital, from any corporation should also do the trick.
The operation should be possible with a reputation of 50 with any faction, that is trying to get their hands on the good stuff and/or want to hurt their rival. Whichever corporation you rob, you lose reputation, of course. As a reward, no money, but at least ten Nano-Ready Medkits.
I would like to do an operation at the side of the “Los Val”. Not because I like street gangs, but because I like “Kass Bad-Eye” (and yes, I want to know why she is called Bad-Eye) and I like “Sidearm Gerrin” (and again, I want to know it, why she is called the way she is). But the only thing of value, their sworn enemies (which are also my sworn enemies, as it is always them that kill off my runners, usually Clive Zep, the last time it was Vector), the “Knight Horizon” have is the “Thopter”. Maybe it is possible to damage the thing, blow it up. Take this Operation once per month, take the Thopter down for three weeks, maybe.
As mentioned above, I play the game on the the difficulty “Brutal”. This means, half of my shots miss and the other half is stopped by the enemy his armor. This can get tiresome, sure I could take them all down with the Mongoose, but I do not want to create too many enemies. So, maybe we could increase the ladder from BraveStar and at the value of 200 they give out some kind of “Ares Gamma Mk5”. Just like the Yakuza hands out the Mongoose.
And as the Mongoose is not overpowered this wish is not either.
But why don’t we use the lore of the game again and make things interesting. As the knight wanders through Mars Territory, he/she should be stopped by some Mars face runner, telling about a rewarding opportunity, waiting in the Mars backrooms. (Although this should not be imperative to start the whole thing, only to give the hint, it exists.)
Int he backroom we will find Mallor True, who is unusual nervous and kind of on the edge. As we appear before him, he tells the knight that he just found what he was looking for, someone able to help him out. Or better, to help a friend of him out…
So the knight rushes out of the door to rescue Kidd. He got into trouble form the stims he always uses and now owns money to the wrong people. Or he hacked the wrong account, it does not really matter what is the reason. The knight fends of the attackers and escorts Kidd to the people he pissed off. There the knight negotiates, then threatens, then fights to get this problem off of Kidd. After this the knight pays what Kidd owns, or gets the chance to work for it (the second one seems to be the better option as it includes Kidd, even his stats are not good). After Kidd is cleared the knight gets back to Mallore and he hands over a special entry permission, to get into some private place. In this place there is a lonely, corrupted engineer at work. And he can produce something special, a “Custom made Ares Gamma”. As it is produced especially for the knight it should have increased stats, bigger clip, higher speed, more penetration (more speed and a bigger clip are really needed, even desired – with the Mk4 it is usually two misses, one stopped by armor, two hits, if lucky). But as the missing materials for this custom made Ares Gamma might be noticed by someone there can only be one and as it is produced illegal and sold under the table (including a fake permission – so you could sell it, because the game lets you even sell the Mongoose) it has to be expensive. As this whole thing is really something it should cost around ten times more than the Mk4.
You know what I like? Nano-Ready armor, it keeps you in the fight, even if you are supposed to be dead. I always use the “Jaguar NanoGuard” from “AzTek”, as it has the most protection. How about a custom made one? One that fits perfectly, it does not have to have increased protection, but as it fits better, the mobility should be higher, so the Dodge stat should be increased.
The description of these kinds of armor (does not matter from which corporation) says it forms a complete shell around the one that wears it. I am imagining the thing as some kind of modern plate armor. And this really gets me going – power armor – want it, must have it! (Like the ones in the Mangas from Masamune Shirow.)
Something like this should have small engines, to improve the strength and dexterity. The surface should be intelligent and imitate the surrounding color patterns, which increases the stealth stat. As the sensory far surpasses the human senses the perception should also be improved. You could even improve it further, by letting the armor use the knight his/ her computer, if it has enough resources to help with the processing of data.
These improvements, like the intelligent surface, could be extra modifications, which need to be bought extra, which should cost a lot of money.
To not overpower the armor, how about some downside: as the knight is completely cut from the outside the implant “Pheromone Injector” is at least dampened in its effectivity. (I know, there is the implant for aggression, which helps with threaten jobs, but I do not know the name right now.)
Something like that. Please think about it.
Thank you for reading all of this, thank you for considering doing it and if you really want to do something, make it the “Custom made Ares Gamma”. I want it, I need it!
As before, sorry for any spelling and grammar mistakes, as English is not my mother language.
