What's different about independent worlds?
When you make a ship on one of these worlds, are they independent? Or can you not make ships on an Indy world?
... I've never had a world turn Indy.

Popultaion doesn't grow on Indy worlds.
I'm pretty sure you cannot build ships on Indy planets, but it has been a long time since I last played ST4X.

Indy worlds help protect your empire from overpopulation and credit sink on very low quality. They're also very good at managing planets that have been bombarded into the "very bad quality" tier.
