Of course, the value of a particular trait is often circumstantial. "Sharpshooter" may be a great trait for your soldier or pistoleer to have, but will be useless to your non-fighting crew. Also, non-personal traits tend to be more valuable than personal traits when your crewbies have them, and less valuable than personal traits when your captain (and, to a lesser extent, your officers) has them. In other words, it's usually better if your crewbie has Assertive, Sly, etc. than an attribute bonus, but better if your captain has an attribute bonus than Assertive, Sly, etc.
Still, discussing trait balance isn't impossible, especially when comparing similar traits.
-----
Crippled -2 Fortitude, -1 Strength, +4 Wisdom => Metascore: -2
Frail -2 Fortitude, -1 Strength => Metascore: -1
Uuuuh. So "+4 Wisdom" is a bad thing?
-----
Snob At times condescending to the point of being insulting, gains a 50% chance to cause Morale loss in other crew members when spending time in the Spice Hall => Metascore: -1
I'd say -2. That's the worst trait overall for one of your crewbies to have; I get rid of Snobs as soon as I can, personally, whatever positive trait they might have.
-----
Bearbuilt +3 Strength
Charmer +2 Charisma
Inspiring +2 Charisma
Earthy +3 Fortitude
Erudite +3 Wisdom, +1 Resilience
Focused +1 Quickness, +1 Fortitude, +1 Strength
Iron Spine +3 Resilience
Pain Tolerant +2 Fortitude, +1 Resilience
Scrappy +2 Fortitude
Shrewd +1 Quickness, +3 Wisdom
Stout +1 Fortitude, +1 Strength, +1 Resilience
Don't the "+2 Charisma" traits look a little weak, considering all those traits have the same +1 metascore? Plus, there are two "+2 Charisma" traits: couldn't Charmer and Inspiring be differentiated and made a little stronger (a little more equal to the other traits) by adding a different additional bonus to each?
-----
Driven Unshakable in resolve, Morale will never drop below 50, +2 Resilience => Metascore +2
I'd say +3. It's the best trait for one of your crewbies to have, isn't it? And even more for your officers. Driven crewbies/officers never stop participating in the ship skill pool and never defect, and can they even mutiny without the Malcontent trait?
