I've been searching the forums with no luck, so I'm pitching it out here.
I do not have a current need to reset my phone, nor am I replacing it anytime soon. However, I have had terrible experiences where something awful happens to my phone and I lose everything that isn't backed up. From what I can tell, using Helium deletes the save game off the original device, which is the opposite of what I want to happen.
I've put a lot of time and love into my two different saved games, and I hate the thought that a freak accident robs me of all of it because the save files are not safely backed up.
How do I back up my games without losing them on the device I am playing on? Am I misunderstanding Helium, that it DOESN'T remove the data off the device you are backing up from? Is there some other way to protect them in case my phone is stolen or fritzed in a freak accident somehow?

Helium backup is what I use. You'll need to connect it to a computer, but it's fairly straightforward.

So Helium does NOT delete the original save game?

That is correct - Helium does NOT delete the original save game. (what would be the point of deleting-- the game would no longer be playable?)

The whole point of a backup is to MAKE A COPY of a known good state, to be able to return to it later on. It may only affect your current state if you try to restore from backup.

The confusion regarding saved games being deleted might arise from a particular situation. I, as many do, have an android phone and tablet and will sometimes use helium to transfer the saved games from one device to the other so I can pick up where I left off (I've got the paid version of helium so I can back up to the cloud after playing and restore from the cloud before playing on the other device). If you have different saved games on the two devices restoring the back up from device one onto device two will replace the saved games on device two with the games on the backup from device one.
Does that make any sense?
For what you want to do, Helium is perfect.

Yes, that's not only makes sense, but also a predictable and expected behavior from a generic tool such as Helium.

I knew the behaviour made sense, was just concerned my explanation was getting a bit long and rambling

So I was getting ready to backup everything and the warning in big bold italic letters at the top of the official page given by fallen earlier in the thread says [emphasis mine]: "This process is not intended to allow you to play the same saved games on multiple devices simultaneously. Backup and restore procedure allows you to transfer saved games from one device to another. ***This will wipe the saved games from the device onto which the games are transferred.*** Please use this procedure as document, for the intended purpose – to migrate games from a retiring device to a new device." Which again brings up my concern. The big lettered warning is wrong? The save game is NOT removed from the original device? If it isn't, then the warning needs to be updated.

***This will wipe the saved games from the device onto which the games are transferred.**
Indicates that the restore procedure wipes data from the target device, not backup.
I hope that is clear?

Helium backup doesn't work on any Sony device leaving longstanding players having to start again every time they get a new phone.
Please consider adding a proper backup function to the game rather than relying on third party apps.

Please consider adding a proper backup function to the game rather than relying on third party apps. Thanks for the feedback and sorry to hear that the option doesn't work for Sony devices. Rooting is another, less easy option. We're always working on improving and the cloud save option is a big infrastructure goal we have for the games. With just two of us and a lot of other priorities to keep the company running, we're trying to get there.

I sure wish Google cared enough about Android users to provide a working backup solution!
Wouldn't that be crazy?!?!
