Where can I hire explorers? I tried dozens of spice halls, about 50 contacts with variable recruit options but no luck. There are none indicated on startraders.gamepedia.com/Contacts - or is the explorer a captain/officer-only job? Kind regards, gorn

You probably already know but quick mention: You can hire exo-scouts, or make them one of your Captain's 3 jobs. They have some of the same types of talents, and are much better fighters.

Also Exo-Scouts have one of the best exploring talents. It lets you swap out a risk card for an artifact reward card. I think it's level 11 but once you get a few of those, you'll be rich if you can figure out where to sell em.

Not surprisingly, you hire Exo Scouts from the contact Retired Explorer. I replaced one of Soldiers with an Exo Scout, so didn't need an extra birth on the ship.
Where can you sell Artifacts?

They are legality 2 and permit 4. So Indy zones with trade law 2 or if you've got level 4 permit and can find a law 2 faction planet. They're rare but not impossible to come across. Otherwise you have to use black markets, and you'll need decent rep with your contact to get the equivalent of a lvl 4 permit.

I remember seeing E-Tech recruits available in a spice hall but I don’t remember where. Is there a handy chart that shows basic recruits and where they’re available?

It's not easy to find E-tech available in the spice hall--took me quite a while. I suspect the availability of different types of recruits is dictated by the stats for the planet/zone. Look for a planet with high stats.
Does anyone know which stats drive this?

High-tech Industrial always have E-Tech in my experience.

Ah, so maybe it is the type of zone that determines the types of recruits available.

Thanks for the tip, lurker. I had two leave my crew after a nearly fatal accident in deep space and I was severely short staffed!
