Yeah, this will be strictly easier than the melee-only challenge. The main ways this will be easier: Hydras for ranged damage + spawn suppression, Scouts for single target damage and kiting (probably very crucial on non-trivial difficulties), and *maybe* a single soldier for buffs. I'm thinking a melee captain will be better because I'm not going to be able to stop all Xeno from reaching me, and I'd rather have a shield when they do.
That said, unlike the melee-only challenge, this could be interesting because it could be played on non-Easy difficulty.

Oooh, I missed the comment about flame turrets. Yeah, this could be a fun setup for Flame Tank Engineers. The problem for me there is, I rarely invest the RP in Engineers (other than for Strike/guns) enough in a single play-through to get to Flame Tanks. So I'll have to do a NG+ if I want a Flame tank engineer.
