I sometimes struggle to know if my cross-shaped, or V-shaped, or 2x2 square shaped attack will hit particular tiles. Does anyone have a graph or series of images showing how that all works?

I thought it was in the UI. I guess we could write up a wiki page is multiple people are confused about it.

Well, I might be able to do that on my own eventually. I just wanted to know if people had an existing chart showing the tricky cases.

I honestly didn't think there was anything unexplained from the images in the game. Am I missing something?

One example is the melee AoE the captain has, whose name is escaping me. It is unclear where the templar is in relation to the cross-shaped AoE. By some interpretations that attack looks like it will hit foes behind the templar.

ok, that helps
the cross template is followed exactly (the same code) as the other ones. You just have to keep in mind that in many configurations, the Templar is standing in one of the target spots.

All AoE templates are shown based on the target in the center or highlighted tile.
