Hello,
I played Heroes of Steel on PC for several months, before I burned out. I was deep into the game and wanted to come back and finish it now. I can't seem to find my save file and upon starting the game only gives me the option to start a new game. I'm playing on the same machine / hard drive as I originally had so I was wondering where the game saves your data.
Thanks! Ross

Alright, I've located the files, and placed them in the proper folder. When I launch the game it doesn't seem to find them. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Could be that you didn't copy all the files, or you opened the game and it created core.db but that original core.db wasn't copied.
I'm not sure what you mean "doesn't seem to find them" we might need more details to help.
Thanks for playing!

I would try running the game, and then copying the files over and overwriting whatever files the game creates.
so, 1. start with an empt folder, 2. open the game and create a new group 3. copy all the files from the old folder over top of anything in the folder, overwrite (Y)

Looks like I got it working. I have copied all the game files, without copying the core and data files. Once I did all of them it worked.
Thanks for the help guys!

that makes sense. core.db contains the list of saved games to load -- game_1, game_2, etc. Without core, you wouldn't see any saved games. Sorry for the trouble, glad you got it working rossgarnerglad to have you with us!

rossgarner - thanks for posting and hope you can get the games back -- %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Heroesofsteel.win32\ Why do you store personal user files in a machine-local place? %LocalAppData% is not roamed and excluded from any backups, except full-system backups.
