I am a software engineer, and a well paid one. Presumably this is because my talents are valued or I'm good at something, or some kind of super-impostor. Whatever. That said, Cory's rate of delivery and relatively low rate of introduced bugs and ability to monitor player actions (via a metrics system he must have set up) put my skills to shame. I have no idea how you do it Cory but I am friggin' impressed. I've accepted the fact that I will likely never be as skilled as you. And that's ok. Because you make amazing games and I will just play them with reverence.
Thanks for being amazing.

I was also once a reasonably well paid software engineer. I know the struggle. My skills are artificial.
The biggest difference between then and now, and one of the reasons perhaps we look like we are doing so well, is domain definition.
You're probably a software engineer in a big complex thing that you have to share with a bunch of other people and companies and stuff.
Your requirements are probably complex, ever-changing and likely defined by people who have little to no idea how the company's existing software works (just guessing.)
--
Compared to this difficult environment ... my domain is just code I wrote ... to my specs ... using my design patterns.
I have a fairly rudimentary analytics system -- way less than your average AAA title would use, but for our needs it is enough.
My bug rate is low because I never deal with OPC (Other People's Code) and I release when I'm ready and code to requirements defined by people (me) who know exactly how the company's existing software works.
On the flip side, we can only move at one speed, cannot work on more than one thing at a time, can only make one kind of software ... our software engineering tasks and teams are just very, very different.

I was also once a reasonably well paid software engineer... You know... I've been on these forums long enough to know you guys always deliver and don't hesitate to respond to fans and critics. And yet... It still blows my mind every time I read something like this. Y'all are the best.

The difference is,,,, Sock Puppets. Vicious evil things bent on taking over the world thru fun games. I first came to this forum just to report a bug, three days later, problem solved. Most people have to wait days even weeks just to get a response. I'm overjoyed at the care and understanding the TB's provide their customers. At times though,,, I'm also afraid. They're not normal
