contributor - I was not aware that training or purchasing upgrades actually advanced the clock. You'd think that I would have noticed after all this time. You know, I'm not sure about that anymore. I thought once that I noticed it adding time for training, but when I've paid attention now it doesn't seem to. So either something changed or I was confused. I'll try and pay more attention to it though. I did some fidgeting with it. Time does indeed pass everytime you make a purchase at the exchange. I still don't know for sure about training though. This leads me to wondering if any other urban activities still cause time to flow. I don't even know if this has ever been brought up before.

The exchange thing has been known for a long time. Negotiation skill cuts down on the amount of time needed for a purchase. Promotions also take time and I think that repairs and upgrades to as well.

Oh. Well don't I look silly. I just know it was something I never knew.
Is the amount of time that passes also affected by the amount of items in a purchase, or just your negotiation skill?

I think the biggest factor is amount of money. High value trades take longer, because all the sleezeball politicians have to make sure they get their cut.

Hey, don't badmouth those politicians! If it weren't for them, the quadrant wouldn't be the peaceful, loving place it is today!

De Valtos zealot has the easier time of this award. After reading this thread I gave it a go. First try. Missed spy wars, blockading, did 5 jobs, blew in anything that moved, I mean up, De Valtos had records for sale on its other planet below Cadar. Done.

Good thinking and I'll let you know if I win it!

I struggled for many months with this, the key is the aperio caliga and it's massive water tank. Start out in DE valtos as a spy, if possible, or as anything with a high pilot skill. The key here is MONEY, not contracts. Before entering the palace and completing the first mission enter sell all your starting electronics and weapons to DV and then get four courier/safe passage contracts from the spice hall. Complete the contract then reenter the palace and collect a trade permit, now fill up on water do your four contracts, return and take four more courier contracts, repeat until you have enough money to begin buying artifacts/weapons / electronics/records. Now go to a DV exchange and buy all their banned goods then sell them back, repeat until the exchange is out of artifacts /weapons/electronics/records. Continue this strategy until you have gained enough rep to buy 8 promotions, if you're on your toes and pick contracts wisely you should be able to do this all at level 1 with plenty of time to spare.

Cheaper to buy up and sell all the records at DV

I find hunting and vaporizing Steel Song ships is the best method to achieve anything. Had a bad day at work? The missus put you on PR? Your beer isn't as cold as the Rockies? Well, Steel Song has the solution for you!

GOT IT!
Yes, Captain RR (short for rapid rank) achieved rapid rank 3 at 62.54 ST. It was a tough run.
I started out naming my captains for this attempt RR1, RR2, RR3... but I eventually gave up when I hit double-digit RRs and just started naming them RR. I went through a LOT of captains.
The first few Captains I tried running delivery missions between De Valtos Prime and Syndicate Prime. This just didn't get the rep up fast enough.
So I started supplementing my deliveries with purchases of records on syndicate prime, then selling them right back as soon as I bought them. This gave me the necessary rep, but I didn't have enough money to buy the necessary ranks.
I also had another problem. More time spent flying around meant more time encountering ships or the hazards of space, resulting in more time in the star dock, wasting too much time.
So I tried running a Javat explorer. This gave me a lot more money, but the rep simply didn't climb fast enough. I tried supplementing with records from Syndicate Prime, but it was too far away.
The explorer gave me metric tons of money fast, but didn't let me gain rep fast enough. The delivery route and purchase of records gave me rep, but not enough money.
So eventually, I compromised.
The final strategy was a De Valtos Explorer flying a Fidei Defensor. I put 2 additional points into negotiation, then afterwards began levelling up exploration and negotiation repeatedly.
Touch at Devaltos Prime just long enough to drop off the starting delivery contract, then immediately fly to Syndicate Prime. Touch down long enough to pick up a trade permit and some water, then it's off to Ugolhosh to start exploring.
Once I had a full cargo bay or something close to it, fly back to Syndicate Prime to sell my artifacts and other goodies. This gave me a small bonus, but nothing compared to what I got when I bought all the records on Syndicate Prime than sold them right back. Rinse and repeat.
It took many attempts. The first couple of times I simply didn't get enough rep quickly enough. Another time Syndicate Prime had zero records for sale. Yet another time, my planetary exploration was dead zone.
One time I was challenged by a star freighter controlled by the Alien, though my holds were empty. It killed me because I had put no points into piloting or tactics.
Finally, after many attempts, I was able to hit the exact right combination of jackpot on the wild planet + bountiful records on syndicate prime + spy war with Javat for increased rep. This pushed my rep up to 116 - elite hero with Devaltos More than the 95 or so I needed.
So it's now time for a mad buying spree of promotions. Finish up at 62.54 with $1,654 left. Recorded the achievement. And now I never have to do THAT again. Thank God.
Respectfully,
Brian P.
