Right now, you have: Move forward, Turn Left, Turn Right each costing 1CP. Move backwards costs 1CP.
It would be spectacular if you could do a side-step left or side-step right and have it cost 2CP.
This would mean if you are facing north, you could move one step west or east of your position (still facing north) for 2CP. Current behavior is Turn Right, Step forward, Turn Left = 3CP.
Side-step left and side-step right are traditional strafing type movements so shouldn't cost as much as the 3CP shuffle does.

if, assuming you can move like that in a grav-void Leviathan suit.
Another on the table suggestion is diagonal movement

oh, and from a game design standpoint i dislike both But from a realistic standpoint, both do happen and we know you nitpick on such details because you code (thus, if things are illogical, you will feel ill at ease even if you dislike it ). For side-stepping, if someone told me it is impossible due to the limitations on the Leviathan suit locomotion abilities, I will scream bloody murder. This is a COMBAT suit, with no other reason than to AID in combat. Would anyone believe that an Exo-Mech armor designed thousands of years from now could not do a simple crab-walk? And for walking diagonal... It is a little weird if we can't do that. It's fine now since we are usually confined in squeezy tunnels (actually, we do the confining ourselves simply because those are the safest place for us, so f*** those Alien movies that make those places look dangerous) and don't really need that feature. However, once we have area-effect weapons, I figure it would be really important.

Meh, it is a combat suit designed to support an extremely specific combat doctrine.
If we look at Leviathan suits as weapons designed for battle on star ships we can infer a number of various movement limitations.
... . . ..
But that really doesn't have much to do with it. It has a lot more to do with the user interface, hardware button support, touch screen sensitivity and other game design factors related to balance, rate, pace, etc.

For UI, could you do it with a tap to turn and long press to step sideways? Or a swipe to step sideways?
For that matter, what about a option to require long presses instead of taps for any movement for people who are having trouble with accidental movement? I'm not sure if I would use that option myself but I would at least try it to prevent the rare but critical missteps I have made.

that would triple the play time, or more probably

anyway, here is the deal -- TA is going to be built up one step at a time. We have a lot invested in the strategy we're using -- and that is only part of it. In any game of Chess you need Pawns. The basic functional utility of your most numerous trooper defines the higher order troops through it's fundamental weaknesses.
Soldiers and Scounts will remain the way they are.
There are assault troops who are going to be added who have additional movement capabilities.
These troops will utilize a powered jet system and have a once per turn Special type of movement.

That's great!
Or the next best thing... give us "Combat Movement" Skill Chips that we could buy with Honor. ;D

As an old skool hulk player, no side steps. It just makes you use your cp more wisely.

Yes, this game is inspired by Space Hulk but do we want it to be Space Hulk? No. Why? It could be much larger than that. And if it is larger, there are many ways to expend CP. Much more than using it for movement and attack. If TA is confined as such, I will be extremely disappointed. Those of us who are asking for side-step is not asking it to be implemented across the board for all without some kinda trade-off.

I think it is a fine addition if it is a special move by a type of Templar that specializes in rapid movement or uses jets =)

A special unit with special movement options would be cool but I think he should have limited weapon choices. Assault only, maybe, or a light levi only.
