Update #112 brings some re-adjustments to the latest Episode 4 content and rules changes. With this update, we've completely rebuilt the end-game Orcin. They had turned into full-on dodge tanks and were no fun to fight, impossible to hit and even fully cursed, many groups were finding them extremely difficult to kill. With this change, we've made them easier to hit but tougher to kill over all with more HP and more Armor. Now, your curses are needed to help chew through them quickly, as they are in return heavier hitters themselves. All in all, this rebalance goes back to the way Orcin have always been -- heavy hitters, dangerous in large numbers, and heavy on HP but easy to hit. We have added new 3 AP bows with range 8 to the weapon shops at Fierhold. We have fixed a bug that was allowing the new Strength-based weaponry to exceed its maximum damage. We also fixed a set of monsters that were using incorrect SFX for their swing and hit sounds. Finally, we fixed a set of monsters that had a visual glitch - an odd red dagger from a yet-to-be-released monster was haunting many of the undead. We are excited to announce that our supporters on Patreon have cast their votes for the 9th hero -- and she will be a witch! Able to swap into the Kyera/Fyona slot, the witch will be a master of curses and hexes. We will be working closely with the patron crew to determine her exact special powers. However, we won't start any work on this crowd favorite until the Episode 4 story arc is complete. v4.5.15 - Completely rebuilt the Orcin monsters in Episode 4 -- easier to hit, heavier armor, heavy hitters in return - Improved bows for sale in Fierhold -- now include 2 additional 3 AP range 8 bows - Fixed issue where Strength-based minimum damage could exceed weapon's max damage - Fixed odd red dagger floating under all undead monsters - Fixed a set of monsters that were using incorrect attack SFX - Upgrades to Android-26, Java 1.8 and new Google APIs On App StoreHeroes of Steel RPGHeroes of Steel RPG EliteOn Google PlayHeroes of Steel RPGHeroes of Steel RPG EliteOn your PC, Mac and LinuxSteam

Great to see this update come in. Hopefully the E4 Orcin issue is laid to rest for good now. I was starting to imagine those berserks twirling around with ballet slippers and tutus avoiding every hit.

A big update for Android devices in here. Let me know if you have any problems.

This seems to have broken the game for me, as after the update the game will no longer launch—resulting in an immediate "Unfortunately, Heroes of Steel Elite has stopped" report.
High probability this has to do with the extremely old version of Android I'm running: 4.4
Still the game worked fine until this update.
Any advice appreciated, I'd quite like to rescue my save at least so I can continue rather than restart!
All the best, it's a great game.

Also, clear cache from Apps > Google Play. Also, be sure you have the most up-to-date version of Google Play and Google Play Services. Sometimes GPlay does bad installs and needs the device rebooted. We tested an Android 4.4 device and it is on our supported version list still.

I will reach out to Google to see if they have any feedback

@sonoda - to be clear about the nature of the update, Google Play is requiring all apps to update to Android-26 APIs in order to update their games. This was not a choice we had -- either stop updating the game or update the underlying APIs and build tools.

This was not a choice we had -- either stop updating the game or update the underlying APIs and build tools. Perhaps I'm not understanding … seems like these two statements are incompatible with each other. No matter, since various combinations of cache clearing, reinstalling & rebooting did not alter the situation, I'll just assume my device isn't no longer compatible. Unfortunately, on this device, I'm married to some software that's dalvik only & will not run on ART. So API 26 (that's like Android 8.0, right?) isn't going to happen. If you can spare a moment, any advice on how to rollback to the previous version would be handy. If that isn't practicable, is there a way to extract my save for use on another device? Thanks for the info.

@sonoda - sorry if the statements seem to conflict. (1) We made the update to 26 due to Google requiring it. We don't have a choice. However, Android-26 includes backwards compat for old versions of Android, it is just the newest set of APIs etc. So -- (2) Android 4.4 is still on our supported list and we have 2 test devices. We did find 1 of 2 crashes. We're working on figuring it out, as Cory Trese noted, we sent a request into Google. Unless the devices are rooted, this walkthrough is the only (if dated) way I know of moving saved games between devices: www.tresebrothers.com/transfer-saved-games-between-devices/

Ah, no need to apologize … particularly since it was just my ignorance about API levels & backwards compat that caused the mid-understanding. Thanks for the quick explanation—makes perfect sense now.
I'll pursue the guide to which you linked. Thanks for the excellent support, I certainly appreciate it.
My device is rooted, though, hopefully that expands the possibilities or simplifies things.

We've found a path forward that we believe should work. We are working on packaging up an update this week and can see if that works. Oh, if the devices are rooted, just use Titanium Backup, etc.
