I have a few questions about guns in cargo, crew, engines and ships guns.
Can a ship have too many guns? I alway prefered guns to torpedoes but saw a lot of people on here like torpedos.
Also i remeber seeing something bout the crew liked using 2 guna each after not being on the engines. But are the ships guns automated?
Also could someone explain the armor to hull.
Basically i dont know if im upgrading my ship smartly or even getting the proper ship as a lot of what i read i think i understand but am not sure.
Btw i do like to play pirate.

Hey Eldreden
Ignore the banter of Cadari ... sure we love torpedoes, but torps are flashy greeting cards, whilst guns are what are used for the real business ... putting loots of large holes in your opponent.
Can you have too many guns on a ship? Yes and no. It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Guns are obviously essential in combat, but they also boost your ship's signature, meaning you are more easily detected by other ships.
Also, think of each gun requiring a crew member to operate. If you are a person who loves boarding actions, then having 40 guns on a ship means you have 40 less crew to help board an opponent.
For the 2 guns per crew thingy ... in that situation we're not talking SHIP guns, but rather WEAPONS in the hold. Again, it's only if you are boarding an enemy ship. If you have 30 crew available for boarding a ship, then ideally you'd have 60 weapons in the hold. How realistic is that? Not really, but you definitely get bonuses for at least having 1 weapon per boarding crew member.
Re the armor / hull thing, I'm pretty much guessing you aren't meaning "What does armor do" ... but rather, how much should you get? My rough understanding is that you shouldn't get more than 1/2 your hull points in armor because any more is a waste, but then again, I seldom buy armor upgrades and wonder why I get ships shot out from under me.

Thankyou thats what i was wondering about as far as crew and guns. So if i have 12 guns and 18 crew i can only use 6 more guns. Also what about engines do they take crew from firing the guns?

Yeah ... engines take 1 crew per engine Hmmm ... maybe it's the 1 crew per engine rather than 1 crew per ship gun. Cory'll know Regardless ... if you like boarding, pick a ship with LOTS of crew. If you like taking out ships without boarding, a few more guns wouldn't hurt your endeavors

The system always follows the Captain's orders.
If you push "Board" the Crew are diverted from Guns and/or Engines to follow the command.
Ships when they come out are almost always balanced in such a way that they have enough Crew + Crew Hull Soak (AKA, Automation Score) that the Crew can efficiently operate the Guns, Engines and Torpedoes.

So the crew will leave the engines to man the guns when u tell the crew to fire the guns?

they're smart about it -- if they need to stay at the Engines to keep the Power for the Guns going, they do so.

Is it more efficient if you dont have to keep the crew moving from engines to guns to enemy ship? But instead keep the both fully loaded and also some in reserve for boarding?(by having more crew)
