I don't really understand the purpose of locked chests in this game, even the red ones.
1. I've never encountered a trapped chests 2. You must have a rogue in your team 3. You defeat bosses eventually
Or rather - I don't understand the purpose for lockpicking in this game. I have the most basic level (1) with Tamilin and she can handle everything.
So... lockpicking could mean something if you allowed to destroy chests.
Lockpick - get 100% loot Destroy - get X% of loot
This would reward investing in this skill.
Same with traps. With the most basic level, Tamilin can disarm all. Traps should be more murderous perhaps?

g thanks for the post! Lockpicking is in fact a system that was never developed as we might have taken it. There are only a few reasons to invest in Lockpicking Talent (range, less AP) but they are very minimal and hard to justify. Considering the game has over 170 dungeons and many thousands of treasure chests, it is not something we are planning to go back and address in a title that is 4+ years old. Locked chests and boss (red) chests prevent you from easily snagging and using the loot during the battle you are in.
