One of the best ways to enhance a game's replay value is to let people kill each other in it. Games like this don't always lend themselves to this format unfortunately though. However as a rather avid gamer both on and off the phone, I've encountered a game which offered what I believe could be a solution to this dilemma.
As a courtesy to the Trese brothers and their work, I'll leave the title of the game out of this forum (unless you would like to know it) but the concept is what is relevant anyway. So the game is a single player fantasy action/rpg. The pvp element of the game was offered merely as a way for players to get more out of the use of their characters than the standard storyline. This isn't a traditional pvp format however.
The way it works is that each character's skill set/attribute/inventory database is transferred through a random enemy generator (confined to level ranges for balance) to the player currently seeking competition. Then a standard A.I. assumes control of the vessel and engages the player.
While this isn't direct pvp in the traditional sense, it does offer the warriors of the stars a chance to test their galactic mettle against the best the universe has to offer. Additionally it offers up an opportunity to check if one combat style is decisively "broken" vs the competition. Can your high speed stealth jango pilot take down my monolithic warrior pilot capitol ship? There's only one way to find out...can it be done?

That would go under "Online Ladders and Trading / Chat" in the Star Traders RPG roadmap.
